Mini tubs

Has anyone installed mini tubs in a Mustang coupe? Did you manage to keep the rear seat? Pics?

the martz kit you can keep your rear seat. they sent me a dealer thing saying if i can sell $10k we can save 10%, $15k 15%, $20k 20%. Thats alot of stuff. front ends and rear.

I don't know what year pony you've got, but if its a 65-66, mini tubs are quite pointless because you can only free up about an inch of room before hitting the frame rails. Not sure if later models have more room between the fender and frame or not.

I do have a 65, and your right its about an inch. You would have to remove the bump stop, and take the inner fender to the frame rail. But an inch is an inch! I agree for the additional inch it's alot of work. Still curious if anyone has done it for any year Mustang.

Between a subtle mini tub and a subtle (entire quarter panel) flare you could have an additional two inches per side while looking fairly stock. I figure that would let you fit a 295-305 back there. Subtle is what I'm looking for. I want to make people scratch their heads saying "How the hell does that tire fit?"

I have a 98 Cobra seat fit in the back of my mustang that is narrower then the stock seat. Even though it's much narrower (approx 3") I would still have interference with the side panels and the inner wheel well if I mini tubed the car.

I'm just reaching out for any creative solutions.

mini-tub is pretty pointless on a 65-66. tub it or leave it...

I'm going to disagree. Year One's Boss Hoss is using a 295 on the back with a Martz kit and a mini-tub. That's much more tire than my 255. Yes, add in a mild flair and a 305 doesn't seem unreasonable, maybe a 315 . I've seen a 285 on the back with just the flair.

Is it worth the time and money? Well it's your money. If I had the cash it would be a done deal.


Anyone know how good the Martz kit is?

get with me a year and ill let you know. i just bought one. that and the heidts kit and a bullet proof 9 inch. now im broke but im gonna have a sweet ass roller when im done. oh yeah i need a cage then ill have a sweet roller.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I plan on moving the inner wheel wells to the frame rails on my '65 and filling the gap with a strip of filler metal. It requires you to remove and relocate the trunk hinges, but I want it to look factory when it's done. I'm not sure what it does to the inner panels and back seat because the only cars I've seen it done to were drag cars with no back seat.

Unique Performance fits a 315 with a mini tub and 4 link..........but im fine with my 275's
