I have a roller 302 with a carb and t5 and while driving tonight I missed a shift and over revved it I think. After the car started running really rough and would backfire and die when I didn't give it a little gas as a tried to get it home. I don't really know what gear or rpm, but I think it was between 2nd and 3rd when it happened but I wasn't going very fast and it wasn't revved very hard. Luckily there are no out of the ordinary noises from the engine. When I got it home and started the engine there was no odd noises from the motor, but it would just die after a little bit and ran like the timing was off. Is it possible that my timing just got thrown off and all I have to do is set the timing again tomm?
Thanks

It's probably not a timing issue. You should consider a compression test now, since over revving it may have caused PTV contact and it running rough is likely a result of bent valves that aren't seating.

+1 on the bent valve; and I'll bet you bent the pushrod and broke the lifter as well.

Pull the valve covers and look for a rocker that isn't tight and a pushrod that's flopping around - that's the offending party.

Then it's time to pull the head and go to the machine shop for a new valve guide and valve.

Been there too many times....good luck.
