Missing a Wire

Hello,

I own a 67 with a 289, just recently put an MSD coil and spark box in... the 6AL. I am experiencing some engine Run on which apparently is a common problem with the 6AL. So much in fact they supply a diode with it to keep it from happening. This is where my problem starts, the wire I am supposed to put the diode in IS NOT THERE!

I am supposed to install the diode on the wire inbetween the Voltage regulator and the charging light. This wire is supposed to go to the "I" connection on the voltage regulator, but there is no wire there at all. I have a yellow wire (and a yellow ground) going to the "A", I have a green wire w/ red stripe going to "S", and I have a white wire going to the "F".

Does anyone know why I don't have this "I" wire? and maybe there is another wire I could put the diode on since I don't have the correct one?

Thanks in advance, I am so close to finishing this project!

I actually had a kill switch hooked up to my coil before I upgraded the ignition, and now I have a switch hooked up to the white wire coming out of the 6AL as the MSD directions stated.

So you have the toggle hooked up to the thick red wire or the thin one? and do you have the other end hooked up to a ground or with the black wire from the 6AL?

I wouldn't mind moving the toggle if all else fails.... I JUST moved that thing yesterday... haha.

Its hooked to the big red wire on the 6AL

I ran it from the battery to the toggle under the dash, and then back to the 6AL on the inner fender well. I tried using some of the factory wiring while hooking mine up and had the same problem your having, in addition to some other problems your also likely to have as well, but we`ll get into those if you do LOL

Be sure and use a toggle rated for at least 15 amps, you don`t want use one too small......I think I used 8 gauge wire too, maybe overkill for the situation, but peice of mind is worth the extra $6 bucks it cost.

If I were you, I would try and wire it under the hood, with the toggle next to the battery first, to make sure this is gonna fix your problem, it did mine....but who knows, engine run on is a weird one.....

well, I went ahead and put the diode in the wire I thought would fix it... it still runs with the key off. But the good news is I can still turn the car off with the kill switch, the one I previously wired up to the white wire coming from the 6AL. I just hope this whole thing isn't causing my battery to drain. I suspect another problem... charging the battery now, I hope it stays that way. Thanks for the help.
