RANT WARNING...

I am tired of my hacked up Magnaflow tailpipes not fitting with my MM panhard bar, so I went out & purchased some 99-04 Flowmaster tailpipes because MM says that the only pipes that fit with the phb are stock, flowmaster, & dynomax... I go to the muffler shop today that does all my work, & they tell me that these pipes wont work because of my 18X10" wheels & 295's? They are saying that they will rub on the insides of the tires???

Another problem is that my exhaust system is pretty much a "frankenstein" system since I run a Mac h, Magnaflow Catback, bassani weld in mufflers, & SLP tips (LOL!!!), so at this point I dont know whats gonna fit....I have spent so much time & money on this exhaust its not even funny, & I am tired of the tailpipes not fitting & I just wanna be done with it.....What should I do & what is gonna work? Should I get a dynomax catback, try to get the flowmaster tailpipes to work, try to fix my current tailpipes, or pay a $h!tload for some custom mandrel bent tailpipes.... If the flowmaster tailpipes arent gonna fit, i would rather send them back to summit rather than hacking them up to fit & ending up with more problems, but I have a feeling they will work....I have a flowmaster catback on my 95 with 17X10.5's & 315's, & it fits fine with no rubbing & the 95 rear end is narrower than an 03 rear? Please help!!!!

I guess to sum it all up, my question is, are Flowmaster tailpipes going to fit with 18X10's, 295's, & an MM panhard bar??? Thanks

how expensive could it possiably be for some custom bent pipe. Sounds like thats what you are going to have to do unless you like swapping parts out.

Not too sure, but probably @ least a few hundred...I think Im gonna cutoff my tailpipes this weekend & try to bolt up the flowmaster pipes. if they dont fit, than I guess I will send them back & be forced to run dumps for a minute until I can figure something else out...

if it dont fit i dont think a few degrees of a pressbend on the flowmaster pipes to make em fit would hurt you at all..

It shouldn't cost no more then 100 bucks, you already have the tips, thats most of the cost. All they have to do is take the pipe from over the axle to where the tips are to clear everything. An entire cat back. It doesn't matter what brand anything is. Its all metal and can be cut and welded to make it fit correctly.

I dont want my tailpipes all cut up & cobbled together, it kinda defeats the purpose of the mandrel bends imo. At this point, my magnaflow pipes are dimpled in on the driver side because they were hitting the PHB axle mount, & the passenger side basically rests on the PHB chassis mount & it rubs on the inner tire on very hard turns.....Maximum Motorsports said that the Flowmaster tailpipes should fit over the PHB perfectly since Flowmaster tailpipes ae exactly like stock, just larger diameter & mandrel bent. But, the muffler shop thinks that the pipes arent gonna clear my tires & that they are gonna rub????

Have you thought about just running dumps and getting a V6 bumper? I have thought about this as my exhaust fits like ass for some reason. The only reason I havent done it yet is because I like the tail pipe look too much..

MM has probably told you this already, but if tire clearance is your problem, wheel spacers are an option. May not keep the look you like, but it is an option.

I went through a nightmare couple of months with this situation as well. You can read my story and solution here:
http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=625462

I run 18x10.5" wheels on the rear with 315 tires. Everything fits.

Thanks...That was a good write up. They did a killer job on your pipes, I wish there was a shop out here that would do that for a decent price. I actually want my wheels out a little bit more in the the rear, maybe like 1/4 inch, so wheel spacers might be a good idea? Maybe this will help with the situation?

Well let's talk about running dumps..

For me anyways, dumps are sounding better and better..

EPIKGT, I suppose since your in Cali it would be a real hassle for you right? Dumps are considered illegal because the exhaust exits under the vehicle, no?

Haha..

Honestly, They do fit (OK) and I may still use them. They tend to adjust themselves and I have to regularly get under there and move everything back to where it should be.

I've been trying to get it all to fit properly with my MAC longtubes. The magnaflow X I have has been hacked so many times that it looks like crap now and it still leaks at the header.

I also want to move to a catted X because:

1) IMHO the o/r X and longtubes are way too loud
2) When I drive my car to work I get into the office (and my client's offices) smelling like gas fumes.
3) It's not worth the aggravation during e-check time. I don't have my stock catted unit so I can't switch.

Now, my entire magnaflow system was welded and that includes the x pipe to the catback (LONG story) so if I change out the mid pipe then I need to scrap the whole thing.

I'm trying to find a good system that will follow the stock routing. I was actually looking at the pypes system. It looks like it does follow the factory routing, it's stainless and cheap to boot!

I'm tired of trying to "make things work" and ending up with a half-assed welded-up system that still leaks and doesn't make me happy.

Yeah, real 'ghey'...
Well, I guess everyone has their own opinion...

And I've never heard ANY dumps that sounded 'like ass'. They may have been too loud, too over the top, too wicked...but never, ever 'like ass'.

Yup...Not MY style, they DONT look good 2 ME...That is MY opinion & ultimately MY car that we are referring to. & so I dont like the sound of dumps, its not the sound I am looking for out of MY car, plus I prefer the look of tailpipes? Once again this is MY opinion... Although the 2000 Cobra R is a bad@$$ car, I have never been fond of the look of the car...
