Hey guys Im looking to buy a short block however, I just dont want to spend the $3600. I was hoping to do Stage II cams and full exhaust (LT Headers, Procharger H Pipe, and Flowmaster 2 chamber exhaust) and a few engine modifications to support some boost. If i wanted to throw a KB supercharger on there would I be ok just going with manley cut pistons and rods? Or do you think it would be in my best interest to just dish the money out for the shortblock? Thanks for your time

that's the only place i'd consider. you get what you pay for, & more times than not, if you go the cheap route you end up paying for it twice. unfortunately i know from experience

i know everyone at MMR and i can tell you that you will get the best motor from there. i used to work there and everyone there is concerned with A) customer service and B) giving you the highest quality product. Mark Luton, the owner, is the only person i would ever let touch my mustang.

well how much money do you have to burn? what do you have now? what are your goals? i'm sure a majority of the guys on this board would prefer a built shortblock if they had the time and money to get one done.

Well if i go with a short block, I def. wont have enough money for alot of my mods. I want to eventually plan to add a KB supercharger on her. But to be honest, If i can just get away with manley cut pistons and rods and not run extreme boost, I'll do it. Lookin at my money im saving, it may not be in my best interest to drop $4,000 on a short block. If i can just get away with the bear min. i think it will be ok.

I wouldn't recommend spending that much money on a short block. I am looking at the same thing, and it seems like this forum has turned into an MPH and VT sales forum. Not to discount anyone posting here, but people telling you that you'll get what you pay for with these two companies aren't giving the whole picture. There are good and reputable engine builders in every state, and I bet you can find someone to put together a shortblock for about a grand less than mail order (plus the savings on shipping, minus state sales tax). A good forged rotating assembly (cobra crank, manley 4340 h-beams, manley pistons, moly rings, rod and main bearings) can be purchased for around $1500. Just check all the mags and websites. It is not going to cost you the $2000 or more to have everything machined and bolted together that some are insisting (based on a $3500 sales price of most shortblocks). Ask around at your local shops to find out who the best engine builder is, then ask if he/she can do all the work for less than $2k.

Actually to race prep, blue print ,balance, line hone and assemble you'll pay $1300 @ any high end race shop.

so $1300
new block $300
Arp main studs $175
and your $1500
= $3275..Now add a good piston like Ross or Diamond and your @ the $3500.
You do get what you pay for.I rebuild alot of "built" cars that are shipped to us.They went the cheap route on machine work and payed for it in the end.
MMR has a good rep as we'll as VT and us.
I build 600-1000rwhp everyday, the quality of the block/machine work is everything. And they are giving you thewhole picture, you don't see bad Threads about VT or us on our engnes.Do a search on all the other boards about econo blocks and see what you find.
You do get what you pay for.Thats prolly why I always have 45 cars here and 20-30 engines on order.VT is the same way and a TOP notch engine builder.

any of the choices between MPH, MMR and VT are good choices. Cobra Killer cant publically recommend his product because of his close affiliation with MPH. i can tell you his product is an execellent product, and if you go with any of these 3 you will be making an execellent decision.

he may not be, but i sure as heck will. before long i'll have one of MPH's shortblocks & there's not even a doubt in my mind about going there & not shopping around. you do get what you pay for, & there is alot of intangibles you get at MPH when you make a purchase, like customer service you can't beat

just a for instance for you all........ I rolled into the shop last week to get tuned & my car was in some rough shape when i got there (was fine before i left). where i had to cut my radiator hose was leaking SEVERELY, & the novi was eating through belts like crazy. well andy & tim took time out of their day to help me out with all my problems & helped me get it all fixed. turns out the connector was broken in the radiator hose, & somehow the blower pulley was put on the blower backwards well anyways they helped me get everything taken care of right then & there. andy even drove me around to some auto parts stores to get all the stuff i needed. keep in mind that they had a shop full of cars that needed working on, but took the time out of their day to help me. like i said ya can't beat them

My problem is I don't know enough about short blocks and which ones to get. I guess Im kinda lost! Im almost going into this thing blind. Ive been doing some reading on the forum and learning a bit. Basically I just want to boost... I want to get wild but not too wild. It seems the best way to go the forced induction route is to have a built bottom...

jsut give MPH a check & they'll handle all of it. you won't have to worry about anything but transferring funds into your checking

lol thats not exactly the answer hes looking for...a lot of people on stangnet dont have a lot of mods because these people just dont know what it is that they need, when they need it, and what they dont need for things they want to do to their car...if there was some way to make a chart that would tell you exactly you need for what type of application youre going for it would be used by a lot of individuals on the site

i think he just wants to know...if he forges his bottom end on his stock block and does some mods to his stock motor and exhaust will it be ok for a power adder....to answer your question...yes this will work...however your engine MIGHT/MIGHT NOT last as long under the same conditions as if u had a custom block...it all depends on what you want to do, and how much power you want...there are so many variables its almost a crap shoot

i think what the majority of the people on here are trying to say is that if you go with a custom block...you will have peace of mind knowing that theres nothing in the block thats weak and might give out

someone correct anything that i might have said thats false please

I mean i like MMR's race mod.. but you guys are reccomending VT and MPH and im not sure which one to look into getting. thanks

they can all build you what you need, you just need to go with the one you feel more comfortable with, talk with the owners and feel it out

that's exactly the way you should go about it.

i know for a fact how much machining MPH puts into their engine & it's done right, at the expense of profit. so that right there should tell you something. but as tim said earlier all are respectable engine builders. my personal choice is MPH, that's all. plus, you have the security of having it tuned by one, if not the best mod tuners in the country
