Well I will be getting a 5 quart bottle of mobil 1 extended performance, is it worth the money?? also, how much of the bottle should i put in?? the whole bottle or pour some and check the dipstick?? Is this oil full synthetic or just a blend?? is my engine going to be quieter maybe?/ sorry for al lthe questions, i just dont want to buy sumthing thats expensive and will do the same as other cheaper ones.... thankz for ur opinions.

you need the 5qt + a 1qt , it cost me like 35.00$ . and i put in the 15 so it is a full synthetic ....

You need 6 qts to fill the pan.Mobile 1 is full syntetic.As far as being quieter,it depends on what is causing the noise.Yes IMHO it is worth the extra money.The only thing about the extended life-high mileage oils is they soften and swell the seals.This makes me wonder if they would actually help to keep a car leak free in the long term,or if they would cause more seal wear due to the seals being softer

I don't know if its worth it... I don't think anyone does, except maybe some chemist's that have studied oils... hard to say.

I saw a show on the history channel all the oil and gas comes from the same place and pipe lines, trucks etc, so I don't think it matters as long as you're using a reputable brand that synthetic.

I love Mobil One Full Synthetic.

I've never had a problem (internally) with any engine I've used it in.

When I buy a used car I treat it like a new motor. Change to Mobil One. 500 mile break in. Change it again. then every 3000 miles.

Check first to see if your car only requires 5 litres of oil. Since it's a '97 it may only be 5 litres. My '00 GT takes 4.75 litres. The newer GT's take close to 6 litres. Also, after doing a oil anaylis on my car, they quickly determined that my car had a K&N filter, so extended drain intervals may not be recommended. Besides what K&N says, their filters do NOT filter as well as a good quality paper filter. I'm not trying to start any ****, it's just something to consider.

I can understand being on the safe side an changing at 10k instead of 15k or something if it makes you feal better. but 3k???? same as dino oil? makes no sense.

watch you filter though. if you use a standard filter you will still need to change it at less than 15k for sure.

you are actually fine just changing filters at 3000, and leaving the oil in there for another 4-5k miles.

The Mustangworks article, while informative in providing definitions, is way out of date. That article was written when the API service category SG was current as referenced in the article. SG became obsolete in 1996 when they went to SH so the article is approaching 10 years old. Oil formulations have changed dramatically in the past 10 years. API specification GF-4/SM just came out and again changed things dramatically calling for reductions in several additives and changes to the base stock.

A good filter should easily be able to go 5K miles. I usually use Mobil 1 filters but, the Motorcraft, Purolator PureOne and K&N filters are just as capable.

Here is a used oil analysis from my GT running Mobil 1 5W-30 and a Mobil 1 filters at 4950 miles. The oil has not even started to break down and the filter is still doing it's job. They even make the comment that the oil is getting good filtration.

Great point! One of the best ways to educate yourself is to do used oil analysis. It will tell you exactly how your oil is performing and if you do it regularly you can keep an eye on the wear trends of the motor. I usually use www.blackstone-labs.com. It costs $20 and they will send you the sampling kit for free.

No no come on you can't trust actual analysis. You must just change it at 3000 miles cause my uncles, sisters, cousin told me that if'n you don't change you oil every 3000miles it will cost the oil companies to much money. ha ha


all kidding aside he is right on the money hear. If you really want to know when your oil truely NEEDS to be changed it is not rocket science. they can tell you if the oil is starting to break down. I am too lazy to do this all the time but if you are one of the sheep that belive that 3000miles is a must this would be a good thing to try.

Most will be to lazy to due so but it takes all the guess work out of it. you can use it to kind of give you a real guide line on you vehicle how you drive it.

oh yeah, i forgot, which brand filter is good, i was about to go buy the oil and 4got to ask about the oil fiter.....lol, i dont know too much about oils and the oil filters...
