The rule of thumb is run the thinnest oil you can to still maintain adequate oil pressure. I personally would probably continue to run 5w20 until I saw oil pressure problems, but 5w30 or 10w30 should be fine.

At 78k I wouldn't bother adding anything to be honest with you.. unless you're having problems, burning oil, low oil pressure, etc. That's just my personal opinion, I don't care for additives. Give the thread an hour or so and see what others think.

About weight ratios; the first number indicates the weight during start up. If its 10w-30, its weight will be a 10 on start up. The second number indicates the weight of the oil at operating temperature. Since you live in a hotter climate, you should be fine with 10w-30.

I would just use 6 qts of Mobil 1. I say six, because although the motor takes 5, I would use some(not all) of the extra qt. to fill the oil filter up before installing it. This helps to reduce friction during start up after an oil change. All in all, it should take about 5.2-5.3qts. You can keep what is left over from the extra qt. around just in case if you ever need it.

Mobil 1 is a synthetic motor oil and already contains any additive packages Lucas Oil stabalizer would have. As said above, if you're not having any leaks or issues, no sense in using any extra additives. Most of them are snake oil anyways.

I personally use Amsoil 5w-30 High performance motor oil with an Amosil oil filter. I like it. I only have to change my oil once a year. I just recently changed it after 1 year of use, and it came out looking almost new. No sign of dirt or foul build up to be seen.

I'm not entirely sure. I think the capacity might vary somewhat. I know once someone put 6qts of oil in my car and it ended up spitting about a half a quart out over the next week. I now operate my car on 5qts and what little the filter holds with no problems.

I'm not sure off the top of my head. I just know I have a socket set and I try a couple of them till I get the right one. I think its a 3/4, but I'm not entirely sure.

I have 2 2002 owners manuals. One says 5qts, and the other says 6qts...

One owners manual came with the car, the other is a pdf I downloaded from ford.

Mine takes 6. Any more and it'll be burnt/emitted.

If you aren't sure how much to use, call up Ford's 1-800 number and find out for sure.
