Well it's not the rim size that requires a modification to be performed, it's the size & type tire that you mount to the 17X10.5 that causes modification.

What brand and size tire are you planning on running? Tell me that and I'll answer your question on what needs to be done!

Thanks a lot. I'm looking to run nitto555R's all around I was thinking the backs would be 285-315-45-17x10.5 and the fronts 245-45-17...what do you think? Should I try something a little bigger up front?

As far as the fronts are concerned... is this a daily driver? A corner carver? Or a drag strip brawler?

As far as the rear... the 285 Nitto is too small for a 10.5 inch rim. The Nitto 315 is the NARROWEST 315 available and will fit without rubbing as long as you don't extend the rear suspension all the way. If the car comes off the ground allowing the rear tires to fall all the way to the bottom of their suspension travel then the Nitto 315's will rub the sidewalls on the IRS bolt. There are a couple things you can do to prevent this. First off and the easiest and cheapest is to grind some of the IRS bolt head down. Many 03/04 Cobra owners have done this. A better solution is to do what I did and buy a set of IRS bolts from Maximum Motorsports. The head on these bolts is much thinner and rounded compared to the stock IRS bolts and it will give the clearance needed. You can get them here: http://www.maximummotorsports.com/subframebolt.asp

If you decide to go with a different brand of 315 on those 10.5 inch rims, like a Goodyear GS-D3 you'll not only need those special IRS bolts but some wheel spacers too! 3/8 inch hubcentric spacers can be had here: http://www.lightningforceperformance.com/catalog/productDetails.php?productID=1168

Unfortunately not all 315's are exactly the same width... they should be, but they are not.

P.S. I currently run Nitto 315/35/17's on a set of AFS 17X10.5 on my Cobra.

P.S.S. Please try searching through this forum because all your questions about rims & tires have been asked and answered previously!

Hey thanks a lot. I was looking at the AFS on e-bay...but I wanted to get the hyper cobra r's....I had them on my 02gt but never had to mod anything, but with the Eibach springs they would rub a little if you jumped on it too hard. One more thing...what do you think about the H&R SS for springs...I think they give the best look!

I'm not into lowered rides at all. I personally don't like lowered cars because of the potential problems that can go along with them. I don't like wheels rubbing or exhaust systems scraping...

...so I have no opinion as far as springs are concerned.

Sorry
