Mod Immediately, Buy '10 or '11

So I'm thinking about adding another stang and I'm looking at a 2010 or 2011 gt vert. The stock power won't due and I'll be modding on either right away. By modding I mean at minimum, Headers/exhaust, heads/cams/intake(on 2011 right when it becomes availalbe), meth and blower. I DO NOT want to get into the block right away.

The whole reason I started looking at adding another in the first place is the return of what I've read is just a lovely 5.0 engine. But when digging into it...it seems that the block may not hold up to the above mentioned mods. So now that I have the bug for a new car it seems that it may be a better bet to get a 2010 4.6l. Am I looking at something wrong here thinking I can get more power safely without getting into the block by getting the 4.6l? It's just a shame too about this new 5.0 , when comparing to the gm product. I'm a modder obviously, I mod right away. I in fact already have a vette in the garage and am very familair with the product. Even though I wouldn't consider a purchase of a new gm product those new camaro's are starting to put down 700hp with just bolt on mods, really just exhaust meth and blower. stock block and all. I wish ford would have beefed up the 5.0 a little like the terminator engine's.

PS...cost isn't really the issue here, I considered the shelby too but would rather do the modding myself and I want to avoid the weight of the 5.4 because I'm a corner guy.

The 5.0 is funtastic to have back in the Mustang lineup. But the 4.6L has been around a bit longer so it's ben put though the paces. My 2010 GT is more than capable of surpassing 500rwhp with the stock block (though it will require a blower of one sort or another). I think it comes down to...do you want to take the risk of paying for a 5.0L and having it blow up or go with something that has good history and a good engine.

these are kind of my thoughts exactly. I'm kinda pissed that they come out with this wonderful performance from the factory to find out they built it on the weak side (compared to previous powerplants like the termi) and preventing you from building some big power without opening the block.

 is it consensus that higher hp levels can be hit with the stock block in the 4.6 vs the new 5.0 ?

Well there are already rods being made for the car if you plan on pushing it. The cars are still new so its hard to know how longterm life is when rolling around with 550 to the wheels, but most blower cars are putting that

The block on the 2011 GT500 is aluminum, so the biggest cause of the extra weight in the old Shelby is gone. Another reason for the weight difference is the blower, which you will be adding to the GT anyways. If you are really looking to push the engine with a blower and meth plus all those bolt ons, you would be better starting with the extra displacement and stronger internals on the shelby. Just swapping the blower on a Shelby isn't that expensive compared to all the work you would have to put into a 5.0 or 4.6.
