So has anyone made a thread concerning mods and dynoed horsepower gains? If not that would be a great idea... anyone know of any gains for a particular mod...

ie: Electric fan, pulleys, plenums, smog delete (shhhhhh), EGR delete (Shhhh!), throttle body switch, exhaust, etc...

I read back in 98:

1) Air Baffle removal plus a K&N = 10hp dynoed.

It would be nice to have such a thread with real dyno results not "seat-of-pants" feeling crap.

The problem with that is that dynos vary from place to place. There are also two or more different styles of dyno machines. The correct way to do it would be to take the same car, have it dynoed at the same place under the same conditions.

Not only that but there are other variables too, like the type of spark plugs, timing, etc. that will change the outcome from one car to another.

What you say is true: HOWEVER

One would be able to create such a list as a way to determine cost-effectiveness or work-effectiveness of a mod.

Even if dyno numbers vary... one would be able to decide that a certain supercharger kit is not worth 3,000 bucks if it consistently only gave 80 hp gains...

or, one could see that certain product (cough tornado) actually consistenly gave lost hp....

can you see what Im get'n at here.. it wont give you a "what to expect" but maybe a "Can I expect it to be worth it?"

Well I heard you can get 150hp out of a K&N and a muffler the size of a coffee can! Whoops must have been talking to some of those rice boys again

Sorry I couldn't resist. Yeah it would be nice but to throw some more reality water on the fire one mod might make a 10hp difference after something like changing the heads but actually make no difference or actually lose some power if you don't have the heads changed. That can make it really hard to put numbers on anything for what kind of gains to expect.

This doesn't really apply if the before and after dyno runs were performed on the same dyno. Sure, there might be a slight variation due be strapped down differently but so long as the dyno is the same, it should relatively close.

nah, only 125...u have to proudly display the K&N stickers on both sides and back window to get the other 25hp.

DYNO's, Horsepower, torque......... Eah! Whatever! Let's talk drivers. Ford should of had a class when you buy your mustang, they teach you how to drive it. That way no dumb ass gets beat my rice a roni, giving us a bad name. Well a least having to defend it. Someone with a bone stock 5 spd notch can bust into the low 13's while some can't seem to get their modded one into the 13's.
