I know this has been talked about and I have done searches and read a lot, but I have some specific questions. I have an SN95 8.8 with rear disks, and I just bought some 06 stang gt 12.5" disks for the front. My car was a factory front power disk car, but the old booster leaks so it doesnt work. I am looking to put a modern master cylinder and booster in it. Does anybody know what combo will work with the stock pedal? I dont mind drilling new mounting holes in the firewall, but other than that is there anything that is close to a direct bolt on, or something that works well? I know a lot of guys use the SN95 setup, but can I use the booster too? What about explorer stuff? Will everything have to be non-ABS or does that even make a difference?

oh and I've already spent more than I want to on the T5 and other stuff, so I would like to keep this as low cost as I can! like junkyard style :)

So the MC does not have to be non-ABS? - for example I could use the ABS setup from a newer explorer and have no issues? And thats what I was wondering about the power booster, Is there any models or years that slip right into the earlier stangs that anybody knows of?

the abs system in done after the master cylinder, not in the master cylinder.

as for a power booster, the stock 67 mustang booster is a good one to use as it bolts right into place, you only need the power brake pedal to replace your manual brake pedal. that or change the location of the pin that pushes on the booster rod.

ok thanks for the info. I have the 67 power booster and the pb pedal already in my car, but the booster has a hole in the diaphragm and doesnt work so instead of spending 150-300 bones for a new one, I wanted to get one off a newer model from the junk yard. Ill try the explorer one and see if I can fab it up to my firewall/pedal.

before you go adapting a booster from another car, either have yours rebuilt, or try and find a rebuild kit for yours. check with national parts depot or master power brakes, they may have rebuild kits for your booster. also in my opinion it would be far better to buy a new booster than grab one from a salvage yard, as the one from the yard could have the same issues your booster has now. your brake system is not the place to try and save money, it is a false economy move.

the only exception to that rule is if you are going to adapt the hydroboost system from a late model mustang to your 67. you need power steering by the way to make the conversion.

You can get rebuilt original boosters from any parts store for ~$100, be SURE to KEEP your spacer plate if you have the Bendix booster as it won't come with the rebuilds (I think the Midland has a plate that comes off too?). As mentioned JY booster is still a used booster, no telling how long it will last, at least a rebuild has a warranty.

You could also go to a Fox-body booster; either the one used with a 2.3 liter four-banger or the 5.0 engine.
The main difference is in whether you have an auto trans or a stick; the 2.3L application is a thin booster, large in diameter, which could interfere with clutch linkage. The 5.0 booster sticks out farther; but is smaller in diameter.
Just thinking that "There are more Fox's than 60's Mustangs these days"; therefore you might find it easier/cheaper to find a good-quality Fox booster (rebuilt or new) than finding a good quality '68 booster.

HERE is a good page covering the stuff; from a regular member here. If he happens to see this thread; Steve might jump in and clear up any questions you might have.

ok thanks guys. Thats what i was looking for. does the fox booster bolt up pretty easy? ill have to look into that. And if you other guys have done the swap with a newer 4 wheel disk master cylinder, will it bolt right into the 67 booster??

The Fox booster could be adapted but if you already have a stock booster/pedal, my suggestion would be to turn your booster in for a core and get an exact replacement at the parts store. A parts store replacement would also come with a warranty.

sa long as you are using a ford master cylinder, they all bolt up to every power booster ford has put out since they all have the same bolt pattern.
