Going through some old mags here. July 2006 5.0 Mustang.

Page 86 is called 10-Second Weekend. This guy has a 99 Cobra and said it ran 13.30's bone-stock. Then he says he added H-pipe, cat-back, and drag radials and ran 12.78 at 106MPH. He then broke the trans. "Since money was short, he borrowed an old TKO from his old 87 Mustang." Keep in mnd that money is short!!! He then adds, UPR Intake Tube, Po-M 80mm Mass Air, Steeda U/D's, BBK L/T's, and a solid axle from a friends Cobra. Ran 12.40's, broke the trans again. REbuild the T-45, adds aluminum flywheel runs 12.01 at 113MPH. Then adds nitrous and run 11.32 at 119MPH. Well, I stopped reading there, and he then dips int0 the 10's...all while being short on money!!!:rlaugh: :rlaugh:

I am so sick of these mags featuring cars whos stories are BS!!!! Come on, the 99 Cobra doesn't run 13.30's stock. And somehow being short on cash you get tons of mods and run 10's......yeah....okay!!

That's like tee Targa-Top Mustang 4.6L SOHC GT in MM&FF that had pulleys, exhaust and CAI, and the owner estimates the motor makes 345HP..

Gee I wish I was that kinda brore :rlaugh: " Yeah, moneys real tight so im only gonna buy the long tubes, catback, T-B, a whole new rear ene, some slicks, computer NOS system, and revamp the suspension, caus moneys tight" next payday can "only" afford the Twin Turbo Kit :rlaugh: yep wish I was that kinda broke. But ya gotta love the guy who gets a CAI, mafflers and a set of pullies and gaind a hundred horses " Dude the box said 30+ HP for the intake, and the ad said 28+HP for the exhaust and the sales guy said pullies add 20 HP but since my car is way modified I will prolly get another 40" :rlaugh:

Exactly. Stuff like that makes me mad. There are countless guys on stangnet who's cars should be featured over any car I have seen in those mags.

If you look close especially on fox bodies, none of the body lines line up. Look at that black t-top notch on page 102 of January 2008 5.0 Mag. First off, the guys is the Tech Editor for the magazine!!!!!!!!!! The car has no body side moldings so he molded the front and rear bumpers to the fender/quarter panel. Look down the car and you can see the doors are way off from the fender and quarter. What is so special about the car? It has special wheels that WE CANNOT buy, and has special badges made, then destroyed the molds afterwards!!! WHOOOOAAAA!! The guy who does my tint also makes vinal graphics and stickers, I can have him make them in vinal, but why would I advertise for this mag..Since "Everyone wants to get his or her car featured in a magazine, but this is different." Okay, now I see how it works..you have to know someone!!

I have never knocked anyones car on here in any thread. I have truely seen nice cars on this site...nicer than any in those mags. I had MM&FF call me the other night to renew my subscription. I used an Arnold Schawarzennegger soundboard to talk to her...HILARIOUS!! She didn't know WTF was going on!

I'm still wondering if the MM&FF Jan 08 feature on that Atlantic Blue '98 Cobra that made 520RWHP and 428RWTQ with a stock bottom end and nothing more done to the engine than 12psi Vortech S-Trim and some tuning....running 10.9's @ 128mph is BS.....

....cause if not, not only am I most certainly buying a '96-'98 Cobra as my next Mustang, but the S-Trim is my blower of choice!?!

That power doesn't seem out of the question to me... little high, but not insane.

Generally the 98 cobras make lower 400s with 8PSI. 520 is definatly high for 12PSI...but not insane, as benny said.

Its probably like the "cam only" LS1 guys....what they dont tell you is they have full supporting mods.

Gearbanger...Another BS story?? I must have missed that one. That issue is at work, so Monday I am gonna find it too!! I have a 96 Cobra with 8lbs and I made 414RWHP. What did I miss??

520RWHP is obtainable but you need what I have done to mine, plus an additional 6-8lbs of boost and METHANOL INJECTION!!! There is no way a stock bottem end could handle the heat. It can handle the power with meth because the meth is cooling the inlet tempuratures of the air, AFTER it is supercharged. It cools it up to 135*. No this is great and all, but what happens when you get low on boost juice and you ignore it and you continue to beat on it...it blows up. There is a warning light in the gauge that you install with the meth and the tune is supposed to pull boost and timing out, but you are always supposed to keep extra with you.....That's a lot to worry about for another 100RWHP. I haven't been to the track since 2004, and I now have a house, so dumping another grand in my car, and risking spending 3-5K to rebuild a motor and trans doesn't seem feasible......

WAIT...WAIT...I know what I could do. Since I would be short on cash...I would borrow the trans from my notchback...buy 2K more of parts, and have 5.0 feature my ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

Well, for those of you who don't have the issue I was feeling generous and decided to scan it. Judge for yourself if it's :bs: or not, but if the numbers on 12psi with nothing more than tuning can come anywhere close to 500RWHP, I think I've found my blower....and my next car. :D

that atlantic blue cobra is no bs, I seen it run at ffw norwalk 2 years ago.

I'm not doubting it's a performer. What I want to know is if it only does it with an untouched engine a tune and 12psi of Vortech boost like he says it does.

I don't see any lines or reservoir for water methanol, but some people can be crafty in hiding this stuff. It sounds too good to be true, but I'm not familiar enough with the old "B" headed Cobra's to decide for sure, or not?

Seriously I wouldn't doubt that car that much... Lidio makes some insane numbers...might be his dyno or its just what he does. A buddy of mine made 680 something on his KB cobra, and another with a whipple 600+, and these were the little 2.4's or 2.2's or something. Water meth would help yeah...but you can make power non-intercooled. Tim@MPH made 5-600 on a non-intercooled S-trim 2v... And that guys probably running C16 for one thing...and IMO 520rwhp with C16, and 12psi, along with full exhaust...it's possible...

Oh yeah and B-heads aren't really that bad - they flow pretty well actually (better than some other 4v heads actually). The big thing in a boosted setup is the intake with its IMRC's and junk....great setup for an NA car, but not so much for a centri blower lol.

This is a great thread. I agree. So much BS out there for the mags to help promote shops etc. How many times have you seen PHP (Paul's High Performance) listed in 5.0 Mag??? Yeah, you get my drift. Elevated numbers using a Mustang dyno to achieve data is not what I call "real" numbers.

My buddy has an 01 Cobra vert, & he ran 13.4 with nothing but an open air box, on stock 245's & stock exhaust, so i could see 13.3 being very possible with a great driver....

01 Cobra's were factory freaks! I coudln't touch stock 01's when my 96 Cobra had 4.10's and L/T's. I ran 13.54@106MPH 2.260ft. They were running 13.1-13.4 STOCK. That 320HP was B.S. I think. More like 330-340HP

99 Cobra's were factory dissapointments They had bad exhaust systems, tuning, intakes, everything. That's why they took the 2000 year off...to make the 01 Cobra the beast it should have been in 1999.
