Ok so I figured I might as well start asking you guys questions in order to have my build up layed out for me when I get some dough. So what's the most horsepower/torque I can get out of any engine combo and still run on pump gas? I say this because I want to still be able to drive around once in a while. Not necessarily a daily driver, but something I can at least cruise in and not have to make it strictly for the track. I'd prefer a little more torque over horsepower. Also lemme know what the set-up you have in mind is. Thanks.

It depends on many things. What cubic inch requirements do you have? It all boils down to cylinder pressures, combustion chamber design, air charge temperature, etc. You may need race gas on a stock 302 with heads, cam, and intake with a supercharger at 14lbs to make 500rwhp, but if it was a 408 with a 6lb supercharger it should make 500rwhp and then some all on pump gas. The reason race gas is needed on the 302 is because the cylinder pressures will be higher, more boost will be needed (compressed air is hot air, and the more you compress it the hotter it becomes), etc.

This is a question that there isn't a black and white answer to.

Thanks canary. I know there's no black and white answer. Just an idea, or a round about figure. I don't have any cubic inch requirements yet (I have no idea what I'm going to get engine wise). I was thinking of getting a 351 as a base with a turbo. I have no idea what turbo nor how many lbs. it'll be run at. I'm just looking for something that'll still be street driveable and will of course haul ass when I want it to. Looking to get my feet wet as far as planning goes. I understand the need for race gas in some engines. What's the most anyone has seen out of a 302 or 351 on pump gas?
