Most likely a dumb question?

Ok - Here it goes.

Is it possible to start your engine to let it warm up for valve-adjustment without having the motor fastened to the motor-mounts? Or is the thing gona wobble all over the place & mess something up?

The reason I ask is I have to remove the mounting bolts, to lower the motor, so I can then remove the valve covers, to have access to the valves on the #4 & #8 pistons... ( I also get to remove the top-side oil filter )

If this is a terrible & stupid idea - hence the " dumb question title " , go ahead & feel free to let me have it.

I'm just hoping to save some time, & keep the engine "hot" for the valve adjustments.

the bolts for the mounts need to be in place otherwise that engine will bounce around and likely damage that nice tiger of yours.

I pretty much figured that - I just wanted to check for sure to see if it was even an option. ( wishful thinking I guess )

I'll forget about being lazy & bolt it up properly before starting.

you could just ship that sorry POS to me and forget the valve adjustment. i will take care of it for you. i will need the title though.

LOL!

I would maybe consider letting you work on it, only IF you brought the beer. ( it would have to be good beer too )

Laury is only 100m from BV, so I'm guessing you could be here in about an hour & a half - Guinness is probably my favorite at this time.

Seriously though - The car still needs quite a bit of work. Under the hood is pretty much taken care of - Now I just need to address the interior, exterior, soft top, rear suspension ( jag IRS ), front suspension, dash guages, oh yeah - & a complete brake system overhaul.

I also need new wheels & tires...

At this point it's just ANOTHER 41yr old car that needs some attention.

I don't know what kind of mounts that thing has, but if they're anything like stock Ford mounts in other vehicles, you'll hurt nothing by letting it idle sitting on the mounts. Just don't rev it.

Are these hydraulics? If so, you don't need to run the motor or set them hot.

it might take me a bit longer than a couple of hours to get there, as i am in az, not va. i figure more like 4 days depending on how i feel as i drive(i am currently recovering from time in the hospital). so if i do come out, YOU need to supply the beer, a place to sleep, the steaks.................................................
