Whomever installed my '87's exhaust did a bad job (upon inspection, one pipe is different than the other).

So eventually, I am going to change out the entire exhaust including the cat-back.

I love the look of the real OEM pipes-they just hang right and have the right length from the rear bumper valance.

I had the Dynomax cat-back on my '87 coupe, and though they were high quality, they didn't quite look OEM.

Anyone know which aftermarket pipes look the most like the originals? Or is it possible to find OEM tailpipes?

I used to have a MAC exhaust on my '87 LX and thought they looked pretty much perfect. Pretty much any aftermarket system you get is going to have tail pipes that hug just a little closer to the rear bumper, since almost all are at least 2 1/2" in diameter (compared to the stock 2 1/4"), but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The nice part about the Mac pipes was that they seemed infinitley adjustable, so you can pretty much put them wherever you choose.

I tried to order mac exhaust from several different companies and each company told me they had no clue when they were getting any in stock..I thought that was kind of shady..

I heard a bunch of bad things about MAC products. However, I like my MAC exhaust.
One thing I did find is that because of the exhaust and h/x-pipe tolerances in the aftermarket, my pipes were too close to the axle. So, a saws-all and a band-strap made quick and easy work in lining of the exhaust.

You can see my MAC exhaust in these pictures:

One factory muffler was shorter than the other, so just by chance if you used factory parts and added a set of knew mufflers... One will be longer than the other. Kind of like nutz

Thanks for the responses--I'm thinking when I change it out, I'll try to adjust the pipes out a little further to get the OEM look--I know the stock pipes are only 2 1/4 vs the 2.5 of most aftermarket kits.

Thanks Njoliver-- but my garage is full of stuff right now and I don't have the room for the parts right now. When I decide to change the exhaust out, I'll hit you up in case you still have the stock kit.

Thanks--I'll check out the Force II kit. I have Flows on the car now, and I still think they sound best on a 5.0 (followed closely by Magnaflows).
