well after about a week of breaking in and calibrating ... i finally got to mess around with my new 3.90 gears. First gear pulls harder.. and every other gear does too but it wasnt like OMG this is amazing...i can still get out of first without spinning but its a little tougher..it gets out of the hole MUCH faster now tho! overall its a great gear for those of you that dont want to go as high as 4.10's because you drive too much highway like myself... at about 70mph im doing about 2000rpms with 3.90s so its not too bad. Great gears... no whine... perfect daily driven street gear!

i thought with stock gears its at 2000 rpm at 70 mph?

Very cool to hear! I have been wanting to go with these since they came out for the same reasons you posted. Many people, including the installers, keep trying to talk me into the FRPP ones because of ease of install, cost and less issues with noise., but I would prefer the 3:90.

Was there a (close enough) speedo gear available for the 3:90s or did you just decide to go speedcal and be done with it?

They say they only use FRPP. I was just curious because I thought the
ford gears did not whine and mine do a little. I'd have to look at the box they put my 3.55's in. I think it says SVO.

Nevermind, I just checked the box and the part number matches the FRPP
catalog for their 4.10's

apex put the abbott on my car and it failed (not their fault.. my car just didn't accept it).. after getting 3.73's i was at 2k rpm at 70.. which is what i was at stock.. thats why i had them calibrate me with a chip.. might want to check that out.
Drive next to a friend that doesn't have aftermarket rims/tires at 30 or 40 mph and see if you are going slower than him/her.

thats cuz you didn't break them in probably

I drove it home easily not getting on it and not going over 65mph.(30mile trip)
Then took it out later that night and still didnt get over 3500rpm.
Called the shop and asked about break in and they said that not to worry
about it. That they have never had a problem with that.
So after about 100 miles of babying it. I had some fun with it.

better than some who just floor it out of the shop, but my shop that 03bluegt went to, says not to go over 15miles for the first 100 miles without at 30 min cool down.. so you doubled that. They said not to go over 50 during that 100 mile period. They freaked out when i said i was babying it by taking it to 2500 rpm during the proceding 400 mile babying period while also not exceeding 65mph. Then after 500 miles they wanted a fluid change because of metal shavings during the break in.

If the gears don't whine coming out of the shop, they were installed correctly. The rest is up to you.

Will a fluid change help.
Oh well, I can live with it I guess. I did spank a cammed fox body last night though. :D
Sorry for the thread jacking!!!

well i drove next to my friends brand new Mach1 and were exactly on the dot... and ive also driven next to my gf's ML 320 and it was right on the money... im not saying im exactly at 2000rpms at 70... i just said about...but im happy with it.. and it seems to be very accurate according to a new car and a fairly new car.

oh and btw there was a sweet white supercharged S351 ...and OMFG :jaw: ... u can hear the blower whine at idle... if i ever pulled up to a light with that i would cream my pants... thats somethin you dont mess with... i think it had a little over 500rwhp too... not too shab...plus its a fairly new motor. The Cobra R(~450rwhpN/A) that was sitting there isnt bad either :hail2:

I'm going into apex tomorrow for Lower control arm install and some basic servicing.. Its definately a great place to hang around.. You should see their project supercharged viper.. at idle it hurts your ears literally.
