Hmm, so no one kit actually has all the parts I need? I assume i can get the clutch packs seperate?

I guess for a little history on the car:

2002 GT
109,000 miles
Rear never opened to my knowledge

I was going to get the headers installed but seeing the oil leaking from the rear changed that. If I am opening up the rear, I figure go to 3.73's while it's open. I have been reading and saw that with high miles the rebuild should be done.

Should I get the motive kit and get clutch packs from the dealership?

The car is getting rear upper control arms, shocks and struts, filters, etc. so I am trying ot get the car straightened out before problems develope. Been tight for a while so aside from oil chanegs I haven't gotten to do a lot of the maintenance I should have.

i say get the motive kit and get the clutch's from the dealer.

also, why are you doing upper CA's and not lowers?

it is good that you are doing some worthwhile maint. and you'll certainly love the 3.73's and fresh rear build.

$$$ for one, lol. The shocks and struts are getting replaced with tokikos and i got the steeda adjustable sway bar also. The bushing in the right rear upper is making ungodly squeaks when turning or going over bumps which is what prompted the purchase. When I do maintenance I just upgrade a little. It's how I validate mods.

And a question, performance wise I would get more bang for my buck going to the 3.73's in the rear over doing long tubes and getting a tune...? I would love 4.10's but I drive for work alot so gas mileage is an issue. :nonono:

I am guessing that it is leaking from the pinion seal and that is why you are opening it up.

You should figure out how you are going to do this before hand. If you are doing it yourself, and have the tools, you could reuse some of the bearings.

However, I would change the pinion bearings and carrier bearings. The outer axle bearings can be done later. You may as well change those seals also.

I recommend Ford parts, although I have a set of Motive gears that also work fine.

No one kit seems to cover it all, so you do have to figure on buying several different items.

I'm not doing the work. i don;t have the itme or tools. A local shop is doing the work for me. Since the car has high miles, while it's open I figure it is best to rebild it all and be done as it won;t get opened again aside from fluid changes. Ford gears and the clutch pack, motive bearings kit seems to cover all the bases...right?

If you have an automatic put the FRPP 4.10 in. After a lot of research and talking to several speed shops that is what I did. I got the FRPP 4.10 form Summit who price matched Late Model Restoration for $149 with the FMS rebuild kit Summit had without the axle seals and bearings but I only have 60K on my ride so I didn’t need to rebuild the axel seals or Trac Lock clutches either. If you can do a two wheel burn out you do not need clutches. Have someone watch when you peel out. The 4.10s really make a huge difference but not as much as I thought due to the automatic I glade I skiped the 3.73. I really did not take a hit MPG around town. I used to get 24 HWY and 20 city, now I seem to be getting around 21 both HWY and city as long as I don’t mash the fun peddle. As long as you have someone who knows what they are doing with the install they will not wine. Mine are actually quieter than when it was stock. Not sure with a 97 about the speedo I think you need to do it with a gear not the tuner.
Look at this report before you buy your gear lube and get the friction modifier as well.

Look at post # 73 from powershiftzo2gt ref auto vs manual 4.10s
4.10 for automatic why? I have searched - Page 4

Thanks for the input man. I have a five speed in mine so I think 3.73's will work well for me? I will have to do the burnout test and see what I get... This rear end repair is looking like it will get expensive due to the miles and everything. But at the same time I would rather do the maintenance and firm things up before it becomes a serious problem or something siezes.

The gear head who put mine in only does rear ends so he diff knows what he is talking about. He said stay with all Ford parts. Summit seems to be the only one I could find with FMS rebuild kit and they price match the gears. Late Model Resto was the cheapest with. I have a buddy that sells Amsiol so if intrested PM me. Also he had a very specific break in he had me do if intrested.
