i have a 94 GT with a 5.0, i have a 95 cobra intake on it with 24lb injectors, 24lb mass air sensor, and a hypertech chip. im wondering if i should start building this motor or find a block to build and have it all tuned at one time. i was thinking about a 347 stroker, but i also have access to a 351 cleveland, anyone have any suggestions???

welcome to the board.

is this your daily driver? can you handle it being down for a while? are you going to do the work yourself? what are your goals? how much money do you intend to put into the project?

people have done the cleveland swap, but it would be a pain. for a 351 swap, your are better off going with a windsor.

Yes, the Windsor is just a big brother version of the 302. A lot of parts will bolt right over (except your oil pan, flywheel and balancer, and your lower intake manifold and distributor). Plus, the aftermarket support for a Windsor swap is much stronger than the cleveland.

without knowing your end goal, it's a little tough to say what you can do. a cleveland swap is going to be alot more difficult than just about any other option.

My end goal would be to have a strong motor that will put out about 400 HP n/a then I'm trying to decide if I want a supercharged setup or twin turbos, I plan on buying a block and building it as the money comes so I don't have to not have a car while I'm building it

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

I would skip the cleveland setup.

i agree. cleveland won't be worth it. and your going two different directions there. you don't build a N/A block that puts out 400 rwhp then strap a supercharger on there. plan the build from the beginning with the blower. parts to make good power N/A aren't the best for the supercharging. perfect example is compression ratio.

so i need to decide what blower i want and build the motor according to what works best with that blower setup?

It really doesn't matter which blower or turbo you choose, boost in general requires lower compression to survive. When choosing your rotating assembly and cylinder heads you need to select them with lower compression in mind. (larger combustion chambers in the heads and a dish pistons) You want to arrive at around 8.5:1 compression ratio.

Any descent engine builder can tell you which pistons and combustion chamber size will net you 8.5 CR.
