I thought I spun a bearing in my motor or perhaps broke a wrist pin (knocking sound from the back of the motor) BUT I hooked up an oil pressure gauge and it is holding steady 80psi oil pressure. Is my problem something else?I was told that if it was those things my gauge would be fluttering and its not
thanks

It could be a number of things. What were you doing when it started. The fact that you still have oil pressure leads me to think it is a piston. The back drivers side piston will usually be the first to go since it gets the hottest. Start by running a compression check, and go from there with it. Good luck with it, but knocks are seldom a minor problem.

I did it racing I missed 3rd gear then got it and kept going well into 4th I heard it when I slowed down, it was a cold 40 degree night and the car had only been running 10 minutes over 4 miles at 30mph. I was told the noise souded to high pitched to be a rod

I posted the same reply on your thread on Corral, as well.

Oil pressure will look normal even with a spun rod bearing. The cause of a spun bearing is usually oil starvation, which can be temporary.

Jasonh_86 posted a good video/sound clip of what it sounds like on a thread here once. Spun rod bearing sounds like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKVhmUytZu8

That sounds soooo familiar. Almost this same thing happened to me except I didn't miss a gear. The temperature dipped really low really fast the day I was racing and it happened to me, even though I THOUGHT I had warmed up the engine enough.

It doesn't matter if the temp gauge was in the middle...the stocker is a huge POS. Chances are if you drove it for only 10 minutes, the engine barely warmed up to 150 degrees.

Like Jstreet said, you need to do a compression test to see how the pistons/rings are holding. A leak down test would be a good idea as well. Trying unpluging each COP wire one at a time while the car is running. If the noise goes away, then you know that's the cylinder with the problem.

I just went thru this entire deal with a 98 GT that belongs to a friend.....here are the results.....

isn't there supposed to be a bearing in there?

I just tore into the oil filter and it looks like a spun bearing...the fram did a goo job of keeping it out of the motor though. looks like its time for a forged stroked shortblock!!
Thanks guys for ll the quick replys!
