motor has 120,XXX, need opinions on rebuild!

well you will always have to worry....anything can happen....agreed if there is no compression issues or oil problems i wouldn't be to worried....if you do tare it apart i would stroke it out before i put it back together but thats just me. if it doesnt need it now i wouldn't be worried about it our engines can really take a beating you would be surprised
 
Ben, theres no compression problem and I'm not burning oil, its not that I have a problem right now, but basically I just want to get in there and just make this thing strong so I can forcefeed it and beat on it without having the constant worry that I'm running boost through a motor that has been operating for 13 years.

My whole idea is that I want my motor to be tough as nails so I can beat the crap out of it and then throw 10 pounds of boost at it, and beat the crap out of it some more, and still not have to worry about it blowing up.

if you want to supercharge it and not have to worry about anything. Then build a dart block with all forged internals, which is big $$$. If you stick with the stock block you will always be worrying!! It is the weak link in our motors. I'll say it again, u are wasting your money rebuilding an engine that runs good(no compression/oil problems). Any upgrades you will do(girdle, etc) will just keep everything together when you destroy your block.
 
our motors are actually pretty hard to kill, but if you want to rebuild it ...

assuming they aren't damaged, you can re-use your stock rods and crank; they can handle as much power as the block can handle.

you probably already know that a 306 is a 302 that is bored .030 over. most of the time, boring it is necessary anyway when you are getting the machine shop work done. forged 302 stuff doesn't cost any less than 306 stuff.

if you want boost, you should have forged pistons. if you really want to beat on it though, you should get a better block and then a forged crank and rods would be called for. the you might as well go stroker, because that is the difference between a 302 and a 331/347 (crank and rods). going stroker adds the cost of new rods and a crank, or about $750.

black, i read a post of yours over on the corall the other day, and you said you really regretted not building your bottom end before you bolted on a blower, how many miles were on your motor, and how much boost did you run?
