Motor Mount Fitment

My car has had Prothane engine and trans mounts on it for years, which makes the engine sit up significantly higher. I had to clearance the hood supports to even be able to run the HSII intake, and my Edelbrock rubbed. When I did the HCI swap a few months ago, I tried adding LT headers but had clearance issues. After thinking hard about it, I think lowering the engine may help the clearance.

My options:

1) Solid mounts and rubber trans mount
2) solid drop mount and rubber trans mount
3) eom style rubber replacements all the way through

I am leaning towards #3 but I am concerned as to how long they will last. This is a street/strip car making over 400fwhp and TQ, most likely. Will the eom style stuff hold up?

Well, I dont have any valuable input other than if you go with number 2 I have some solid drop mounts in my garage not being used I'll let go of for a more than fair price..

How often are you going to the strip? Or how many passes in a year might you do? Slicks or drag radials? How hard do you drive it on the street? The OEM rubber style might last a while if you're not making too many passes and you'll have better driving comfort on the street with the rubber mounts. Add PU trans mounts to firm it up just a little bit too. I have yet to have to replace motor mounts on a complete car but for the mechanically inclined person I can't imagine it'd be more than a 2-3 hour job and a couple of beers when the time comes to replace them.

I have Prothane motor mounts, stock trans mounts & mini starter with 1 5/8" BBK LT's and clear just fine. Do you have 1 3/4" LT's?

I know energy suspension has motor mounts that are based off the old convertible drop mounts. These will lower it and out last rubber. This is what I'm going to use.

Edit: jegs has them for a reasonable price fwiw

+1, have run these for a few years with no real issues. for whatever reason, the trans mount raised the tail of my t5 a bit, but it puts the tko in the right spot, though that may have been the new ford crossmember that i put in the same time as the mount.

solids work too, and are stronger, but go with ones that a vert/later hardtop height.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at the ES mounts, but to be honest, I don't want to spend $150+ on new mounts that may or may not fix my problem. I think I can sell my mounts now and come out even with any of the other options.

I know, I'm being cheap, but I am saving hard for my Stinger PiMP right now.

I think I may just try out the eom replacements. I can get all 3 mounts for $65. For those who asked, I am trying to fit a set of 1 3/4" LT and I drive the car fairly hard. Maybe 20 passes a year.

i used parts store vert-style mounts before i got the energys, they didnt last all that long (about a year) before the rubber started cracking (and they never really did fit right either, one side never would sit in the kmember right). other than a little typical dirt and grime, the new mounts look as good as the day i put them on.

where are you running into your header clearance issues? firewall? steering shaft? kmember?

Well, that's good info to know.

Actually, my headers are hitting the frame rail on the passengers side. To the point that they can't sit flush against the head. I though that lowering the engine may let them fall a little further down and provide enough clearance.
