Motor mount problems

Well the mechanic has been wanting to drop in my motor but the motor mounts I got at Advance Auto Parts didn't fit right. So he went and ordered some through several different stores and again, none of the mounts fit. They bolt on to the block but when it comes to puting the engine in, they dont fit.

I dont really know what exaclty is wrong and I am going to go see for myself what is going on tomorrow.

I went through a couple of catalogs and found that some places only carry mounts up to the year "72. What's differnt from "73?

Why is there a universal one for '66-'73? (California Mustang has this one).

Is there a local store chain where I can get the right mounts? Advance, oreilly's and autozones motor mounts did not fit.

Where did any of you get your motor mounts?

sorry about all the questions, but it is frustrating. The mounts are the only thing keeping me from from dropping in my rebuilt-modded motor.

I know on my 67 I had problems getting the mounts to line up so I could bolt them in, but it wasn't hard to get them to line up. Is this guy a perfessional? He should be able to do this with out a problem. Is his problem that the holes in the mount were it bolts up to the frame don't line up with the holes in the frame? This was the problem I had, but the use of a pry-bar and a c-clamp placed on the mount and the sway bar sucked it up and lined the holes up.

I've never found that any mount lines up the first try when dropping a motor in place. They always needed a little "persuasion" to fit. Maybe he had them bolted on the wrong sides. Or he doesn't own a prybar, or a BFH

The new motor mounts (6642?Do a search on this forum.there has been a lot of trouble with motor mounts discussed) for 67 w/a 289 from anchor(autozone and other big outlets) do not work. I dont care how big of hammer or pry bar you use.I think the old part is 6638.These dropped right in on my car. I guess the moral of the story is it happens. Ask the parts guy if there is a old model number you can use and try and find that one.

loosen the mounts off the block, not remove them, then lower it in pass the bolts through the frame, then tighten them to the block... leaving them loose on the block should afford you some adjustment.. unless the mounts are totally different, compare them to your originals if they still exist..

Try a set of Lakewood Muscle mounts. They look factory but are stronger and fit better.

That is good advice and should work unless your mechanic has any of the 4 parts on the wrong side of the motor/car. If he's got them on the wrong side no BFH is gonna make em fit.
