I bought motor mounts for 67 v8 289 in advance auto and i have problem to align the '73 302 engine with them in 67 mustang. The engine is shifted about 3/4"to the driver side, and twisted too, counterclocKwise, about 3/8" (measure at valve cover and inner fender). Trying to figure out what should I do with it. The car is a conversion from I-6 yet mounting points are welded at the same height and same distance from inner fender +- .080". Are left and right mount supposed to be different (the ones I have aren't)? That makes sense to me or the engine is supposed to be like that? See pics.

The mounts are supposed to be in 3 pieces that all bolt to the car. The first piece is the rubber mount that bolts to the engine. The next piece that actually connects the rubber mount to the car should be broken up into 2 pieces and bolted together. In your pictures this looks fine also. Where this mounts to the car is wrong. Iy looks like they are welded to your car. These are supposed to be bolted onto the lower control arm vertical support brace with 2 bolts that run through that sandwich that brace in the middle of the hard portion of the mount. I have also included a picture of mounts that havent been cut or modified. Notice in the picture that the mounts ar shown upside down and reversed left to right. you can see the 2 long bolts that run through the frame on the car.

In conclusion, you need to cut off those brackets that have been welded on and buy a set of engine frame brackets and bolt them on the right way. Keep in mind that 67 289 brackets are different from all other years and will not work with your 67 rubber mounts. Whatever you buy, make sure they are 67 only, otherwise you will have to buy other rubber mounts also.
I happen to have a set for a 67 that have been glass beaded and powdercoated that I am looking to sell. I am asking $60 plus $10 shipping for them.

I tried to use those type of mounts on mine when we did the I6-V8 conversion and I had problems with them too. I ended up using Ron Morris mounts. I think they are great.

Here's a detailed article that probably explains why you are having trouble:

Just realizing how I overlooked this part of v8 swap. Thanks DC for help this would be another $100 (assuming you would ship it over Atlantic) I just bought dash pad for $150, and have 8" rear leaking & your stores will cash me $50 for a pinion seal and going to starve until the next paycheck. I just pulled the engine and the motor mounts (the ones with the rubber) are not symetrical meaning the driver side is shifted about 1" farther to the rear than passenger side. I see it at best just cutting off existing mounts and making some custom.

Well, since the stock mounts were bolted to factory holes in the chassis, your welded-on brackets are crap and need to go.
