motor mounts for '66 coupe

I have a 66 coupe with a 302 HO out of a 91 t-bird linked to a T5. My only problem has been that my engine is sitting just over an inch too low. I have the late 66 engine frame brackets which are identical to the 67 289 engine frame brackets. I just installed new motor mounts, but the engine still sits too low. Would anyone know any combination of engine frame brackets and mounts that would allow me to raise the engine to where i need it?

If the engine mount bolts to the engine vertically as the older engines do why dont you make up a couple of 1 inch spacers. I'm not familiar with the ho block but I think it mounts the same to the engine.

Are the mounts the "j-mount" style or the other kind. I'm running the other kind with motor mounts for a 67 or 68 289. they bolted right to the 5.0 HO block and the motor is a good height. If you are using the j-mount style you can probably just make up some spacers.

I tried the 67 style mounts but unfortunately they dropped the engine another 1/2 inch. I was able to get older style mounts, i think early 66, but they have barely helped. I think my last recourse is to custom build my mounts. thanks for you suggestions and help.

I put an '89 HO into a '66 coupe using the '67 mounts and had no issues. Is it the driveline angle you are concerned about or are there other issues?

i use the early 65' i heard it sits higher with these

65' type 3 piece motor mounts actually make the motor sit LOWER in the chassis compared to the later 2 piece mounts, about an inch lower. Most header manufacturer's recommend the 66' mounts because the added motor height gives additional clearance due to the fact that the motor is located higher in the V shaped engine compartment.

I would suggest investigating aftermarket type mounts as I have heard that they tend to locate the engine higher than normal.
