I just bought an 04 Mustang GT this past Monday. It only has about 100 miles on the clock right now, but I'm doing some advanced research. What kind of motor oil is most preferrred?? Regular? Semi-synthetic? Full Synthetic? What are you guys/gals using in your 4.6s??

I believe these cars come factory filled with Motorcraft synthetic blend oil since that's what the onwer's guide calls for. So I would just run that until 1200 miles, change it with the same type of oil and start running synthetic at around 4k. This is what I did and you will get different answers, since everyone has different opinions about their oil preference. I recommend Mobil1 5w-30.

Mobil 1 5W-30 here too (with K&N filters). I've just recently hooked up with our local Amsoil dealer though...will likely go this route for my next changes.
40th GT gave excellent advice above. Definately chg it after 1200 miles, if not sooner. Gotta get rid of any foreign debris in there...

Thanks for the help guys. I'll definitely change it out at 1200 miles. I still havent really decided which oil to go with, but I'll probably go with one of the ones mentioned............Mobil1, Amsoil, or Motorcraft. A friend suggested I go with Royal Purple full synthetic. Anyone ever use that, or have any experience with it??

I like Mobil 1, but since they don't make a 5w-20 I have to use Castrol Syntec full synthetic and I always use a Motorcraft filter.

I have heard people say not to use synthetic in a brand new vehicle for the first oil change because the oil is so good, it won't let the engine break in properly. So I have always switched to synthetic on the 2nd or 3rd oil change. Anybody ever heard anything like this before?

Another which oil thread :D , lets see, Ford says to use 5w20 so I would use 5w20, that said and if you want to use a full Synthetic, Motorcraft does make 5w20 in a FULL Synthetic. Don't let your dealer tell you they don't. Mine did and I found it at a local Parts Distributor and then took it to the dealer and showed them. They now carry it and always have it in stock. :nice: The stock # is XO-5W20-QFS.

Sorry! :D
I did actually search, but didnt find exactly what I was looking for. Believe me, in the old forum I belonged to with my other car, I got sick of seeing new people ask the SAME questions over and over. So I know how you feel. I'll try harder not to repost stuff next time! :hail2: :p By the way, if this question comes up a lot, why not add it into one of those FAQ sticky posts?? Just a thought.

Anyway, thanks for the help once again. I've also heard dont use synthetic right from the start. Cant find anything to back that up, but I know I've heard it before. I'll probably go with regular oil for the 1200 mile change, then switch to synthetic at the 3000 mile mark.
