motor questions barney style

ive been a mech fro like 5 years but i never made a motor up rebuilt some stock. but thats it my question is for someone to explain to me all the ratios i guess like rod length all the something :something that ***** blows my mind. im starting to understand cams but i would apreciate it if some could break the whole thing down barney style for me. im talking blocks to rods to heads to cams all the ratios. apreciate the help
