Yep the dreaded vibration issue....

Ok, history, new build, less then a year, has less then 10 hours on the motor so far. 302 bored .30 over, 10 to 1 comp, mild cam (just lopey), Edelbrock heads.

From idle to about 1600 rpm everythings cool, then it starts vibrating a little, gets a liitle worse up to about 22oo rpm, then gets better, and stops at 2500 to 2600 rpm and smooths out again. It does it sitting still or driving, under a load doesn`t seem to make it better or worse.

It may have done this since first start up, not really sure, dont have many miles on it yet. The harmonic balancer and flywheel are both new 28 oz each, its old block, like 78 model with 2 peice rear mains.

One thing, I used like grade 8 nuts on the torque convertor studs where they go thru the flywheel, I saw a car show on tv that said dont do that.....

As long as the nuts were lock nuts, there's no problem. You've probably got a vacuum or tuning issue, based also on the crappy mileage. Also check the distributor advance and see if it's working like it should.

I`ll look into those 2 things today Danny

and get back to ya. I`ll check but my base timing was 12, and it went up to like 32 I think at about 3000 rpm, but I`ll double check it today.

Yea I solved it.....kind of by accident.

The vibration went away after changing to a manual transmission, which means it had to be the cheap flywheel I had on the car. With the manual trans I went one of those billet steel flywheels and its smooth now at all rpm`s.
