The new 5.0 engine is going in my 86 GT convertible new weekend. I would like to go ahead and replace the motor mounts while it is apart, either with stock replacements or solid mounts. Why do they specify different mounts for convertibles, and what problems could I possibly face if I were to try to use solid mounts for a non vert in my car? It's coing carbed, so I dont think it would make any difference on hood clearance if it made the motor sit a bit higher. Thanks!

i dont know much about 4 eyed stuff, but here is what i think i know on 87 on up:
the mounts are interchangable (vert vs hatch/notch). ford finally figured out that the interlocked vert mount was better, so it comes on all stangs by about 92-93. you can look up mounts at AZ's site and see.....the verts need more help since the cars lack structural integrity. many non verts run vert (or 93 mounts).....but i dont know what that means for you.
anyhow, good luck and bump.
