I have a 2000 v6 with the Mach 460. I am looking at getting a stereo unit for my car that plays MP3s. I'm not looking to buy Ford's newer Mach systems, so I need some ideas on what is going to be involved on changing the unit.

I'll have up to $300 available for this project. I've been looking at what units are out and have an idea of what I might get. I just need to know what I'm in for on doing this.

Thanks for the help.

wellll if you buy from like best buy, you can have them install it pretty quickly for free.. then theres no hassle, but youre gunna have to pay more since youre buying it at best buy.. $300 is a pretty large budget for just the head unit though, gives you a lot of options

[doh] just realized you arent talking about a cd player that plays mp3s on cds are ya?

If you have never installed a head unit, then you may want to have someone like best buy install it for you, but first look at www.crutchfield.com. Chances are you can get a good mp3 player from crutchfield.com for cheap, and they will give you everthing you need for the installation, and free shipping, so then you can just take everything you get from crutchfield and take it to best buy for them to install it. My guess is this would be the cheapest way to install an mp3 player. As for the brand, I would compare the products at crutchfield, I will just say from personal experience stay away from jvc, alpine, and pioneer. I put sony mp3 head units in my last 2 cars, and couldnt be happier. You could buy the mp3 player from sounddomain.com, they are a little cheaper, but no free shipping, and they will not send everything you need to install it, so best buy will end up charging you extras.
