MPG from lowering springs???

ok some guy told me he got about 3mpg from lowering springs because of aerodynamics. You guys think there is any truth to this at all?

Your friend is wrong. I guess maybe you would see an increase of .5 or 1 but that would only be when you're cruising at highway speeds

I have been wanting to lower the car in any case, just wondering if this was an added benefit. I keep the car on the highway most of the time, I drive 66 miles everyday for work.

The car was 100% stock and was getting roughly 18.5-19.5mpg consistently. I know alot of you may not believe this, and thats fine, but all I did was put a K&N drop in filter in the car, and now I am consistently getting 22.5-23mpg and the best I have ever gotten was 23.6mpg, which I consider decent for a stock 5.0 AUTO.

Good filters do work wonders, especially if your old one was in bad shape. Glad you were able to bump your MPG up a little, cause getting under 20 on the highway isnt too good. Even after installing my 3.73's, Im averaging 22 or so hwy miles.

I am hoping to do the mpg mods and reduce rotational mass. Leaving my wheels stock for now, underdrive pulleys, aluminum drive shaft, those are close to the top of my mod list. I would do the exhaust, but I think I would fall in love with the sound and not be able to take my foot out of it...

Maybe he got the car tuned up, put the proper air in the tires, and put the springs on all at the same time....IN COOLER WEATHER...right before taking a long HIGHWAY trip!!

Just do like we did in the '60's; you can increase mpg by raising the rear end. Lowering the front at the same time may help increae mpg even more. Doing this puts the car in a position to always be running downhill!

I get 14-16mpg with city driving (exhaust note has that effect), but a good long interstate trip will easily get me 22-24mpg (even with over 160K miles). If I take it easy going 75mph and on cruise control, I can get 25mpg.

If I remember, the K&N filter switch got me an extra mile per gallon or so on interstate driving. Been using a K&N for so long though.

Regular oil changes, annual fuel filter change, and frequent tire pressure checks are key items to keep on top of. A tune-up every couple years (depending on mileage) helps a ton too. I'm sure my annual Seafoam treatment helps the old engine out too.

mine has 144000 currently. Seafoam does seam to help, I will get on the rest of the tune up as soon as I get the alternator changed out.
