MRT Hood Struts - Just Installed!

Well I got my Mustang Racing Technologies (MRT) Hood struts today and put them on. Very simple installation and they are flawless. I didn't even have to move my washer fluid hose.

I love the fact that I can open the hood and not have to fiddle with any manual brace. Highly recommended upgrade and worth every penny.

Bolt on installation was my number one priority and I do not feel I sacrificed any quality or performance. (Ok so they are new and I have not had any others but still )

Also for anyone who is concerned about the large brackets (I got the black ones) I am pleasantly surprised everything seems to just blend in, even with Silver car color.

Struts

Yup, I have the ones (stainless steel) from Redline Tuning. Best thing since sliced bread! Should have been on from the factory.

I installed the Classic Design Concepts one on Saturday. They look identical to the MRT's. Looks much cleaner without the stupid bar.

I wish my dealer hadn't bungled getting me my CDC hood struts, this just makes me want them more.

When it comes to closing the hood, do you have to push down on it to get it to latch? Or do the struts kind of "release" at a certain point?

I would love to get a set, but if it requires pushing on the hood, I think I can live with the prop rod.

Not with mine, I just slam it shut the same as before or let it latch and push on the front. I noticed no difference with or without the struts.

i have mrt, just let the hood drop from 15" and it shuts on its own. no need to push.

During the last few inches of travel, the struts (actually gas springs) are pushing straight rearward on the hood. Little if any upward force.
Shuts same as before.

I prefer the look of mine tho

the big bracket is still in the pic that tacobill posted. look closely. in the kit that GT-Tronics made, looks like he fabbed some brackets up and riveted them to the hood and fender apron. simple set-up, similar to the redline tuning struts.

Did you guys have any problems with the hood going out of alignment? I've had mine for weeks but have yet to install them because I've been waiting for a day when I can afford to screw around with them all day.

yes. very simple to do. take it slow and do one side at a time, making sure the hood is still properly adjusted. easier to fix one side at a time, than to try to do both sides.

You're right, it went without a hitch. I've got hood pins so I was worried about alignment because there's no room for movement. Much easier than I expected.
