I am sitting here deciding what next inexpensive mod to do to the car and was thinking of an MSD 6AL. Are these worth the money, do they really offer a performance gain? I already have a TFI coil and MSD wires.

The stock ignition is good for almost 400 NA hp. Unless you're trying to cover up an issue or need the ancillary features of a box, I'd use the money for something else.

Good luck.

Yea, an MSD ignition is not a "stand alone" mod. Meaning, in and of itself, it is kind of a worthless thing to spend money on, unless you NEED it. If you are not running spray or other FI, then there really is no need for it.

Thanks guys, always a big help. Its gonna be a while before I can afford a supercharger, so I will wait on the box.
I will spend the money on subframe connectors and a strut tower brace instead

Hi all,

Did I make a mistake with getting the msd 6 box ? as opposed to the digital 6- OR 7 ?

I just ordered it and got it from summit everyone has them so I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Also where is the best spot to mount them on a 5.0 93

Thanks

That all depends on what your future plans are. The digital boxes are great for boosted applications.

I personally have my MSD mounted where the stock airbox normally is. If you relocate the battery, that is an awesome place for it. Just make sure it has airflow over it, you don't want it getting too hot.

I have the digital 6 box. I like it because of the timing retard function which works well with my nitrous system. The rev limitors 2 rev limitors are nice aswell.

Definitely a good call, some of the best money I spent.

I am running the 6 box, pro billet dist, blaster 2 coil, and their 8.5mm wires in my '86. Noticed a difference. Runs awesome, no problems here

I moved the battery to the trunk so it is up where it used to be.

I mounted my 6AL on the underside part of the drivers side fender under the battery. Its a tight squeeze but it fits well and away from the engine bay heat. I have a CAI so I was considering moving it to where the airbox was but too lazy.

I'm running the Accel 300+ ignition. I love it plus the adjustable redline is awesome. I think it's actually cheaper than the MSD.
