i got the msd cap and rotor from summittracing.com. It doesnt specify where 1 is. does it matter, as long as i get the rotor and plug wire is in teh same place? thanks, Ryan

I have not gotten those cap/rotor kits so i havent had to deal with the problem, but i would think that as long as u kept the firing order the same and made sure the rotor was at the #1 plug when #1piston was at TDC, it should be good to go.

I know a couple guys run those caps on here, maybe they will chime in. Or couldnt u just use those "tabs" on it to compare it to your old cap, and find which post would be #1 if it were to be marked?

I am with Nate - just compare it to your old cap and put a little marker mark or something to denote #1.

Otherwise your method, assuming the proper firing order from your chosen #1, should work fine.

Good luck.

i know how that is. I got the msd cap and rotor kit and i used a marker to label the new one while i looked at the old. I tried just throwing it on and putting the wires in same place and i was rewarded with a healthy missfire when i started up the motor.

I'm with you on this one. As long as you don't pull the distributor, it should be as simple as pulling off the cap and swapping the plug wires one at a time to the new cap (there are little tabs that are used to line up the cap on the distributor), then put the new rotor on (it only goes on one way). This is a no brainer, don't make it harder than it is.:nice:
