I Replaced my factory coil in my 93 5.0 Mustang I bought the Mustang new, with the MSD EFI Blaster an it has a buzz. It's so loud you can here it in the car. What's up with that?

I noticed that too when I bought mine, I can't hear it outside, but I hear it inside the car. I thought it was loud because its high performance, ran it for 15k miles now.

Did you notice any difference in performance?

Probably not, I thought about swaping it with the stocker just to see if theres any difference with my new H/C/I motor. I just searched the forum and everyone says its loud.

It is VERY Common for the MSD Coils to make a Buzzing/Humming Sound, dont worry nothing is wrong with it. I am pretty much used to it now that I only hear it if I listen for it.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

is there a noticable power improvement over the stocker? I dont see the point in using one unless you are running forced induction or a top end car that keeps blowing out it's spark. mebbe I am misled???

I never noticed a buzzing noice or even a power gain with mine. Is everyone running the ignition box aswell as the coil? Because, I'm only running the coil.

Start the car and see if its arcing from one side of the coil to the other. That is the only time i have ever seen one make that sound. Do it at night so you can see it better.

I believe one of the reasons the buzzing is so very common on the MSD Coils is because they are loose and you can wiggle them around, I ended up putting a couple large tie wraps around mine and it lessened the noise.

Eric is right. IIRC MSD has worked to remove any slop from the coil.

Where are your guys' coils getting loose? Does the epoxy between the heat sink and coil body break loose?

My MSD coil was loose from the factory. Looks like it was designed that way compared to the factory Ford coil. I crammed some epoxy between the core and the coil and it lessened the buzz a bit.

When I fisrst bought my MSD Coil I returned it because I thought it was bad, they sent me a new one and it was the same way so I called MSD and they said it was normal, I just tie wrapped it to one of the sides and it really lessened the noise, one of these days I will epoxy it in place.

the only time that sound happens to me is when i take the coil plug wire off and turn it over
when i swapped the coil over i changed the plug wires and cap and put the 6AL box on and i could definitly tell a difference in performance

Mine did the same thing, I figured I could put up with it since I ran one in my Bronco. Its so much louder in the mustang though. I just put a stock coil back in since I have 3 laying around. I don't notice a performance difference either way. I'm sure the ford coil does the job just fine.

The Accel EFI performance coil doesn't make any noise. You don't really need a performance coil unless you are using a power adder & an ignition box. I suppose if you buy it because it's clean & red & an easy bolt on, then you are stuck with the noise. Seems kind of silly to me.
