Hey guys.

Can i use Digital 6 ignition system with 8227 factory replacement coil or do i have to upgrade to one of these? it says these coils are recommended but i was wondering if i can get away with regular MSD TFI coil.
Recommended Coils: PN 8207 PN 8252 or PN 8253

I had a digi6 fail after about a month but so did like 4 buddies in the same week. The coil's ran were MSD, Accell, and stock. We all bought our Digi6 from the same shop and found a bad batch went out. We got free replacements and I never had a problem...ran that box for 3yrs or so. I still have my stock coil.

You hear of more issue with MSD coils than stock coils in the failure dept. Search on here and you will get a lot of hits with threads of MSD coils burning out...they go back to the stocker and notice no diff. and they last.

Alright. For just in case i have extra MSD coil and my stock coil. I will Try to work with these. and by the way The HVC coils cost about another $140 or so. Now i am for sure going to try with stocker or TFI MSD coil.

Thanks :)

It made a big difference in throttle response. I can really tell. So now how long my plugs gonna last me with this? I already got extra set of coil ready just in case this one decide to quit.

Thanks

Guess what?! My MSD digital 6 killed my old MSD coil. Had to return it and get a another one. When you upgrade your ignition system(New) put a new coil in there too. Just the recommendation :) By the way the MSD coil was only 6 months old or less.

I run a reg MSD coil and a Dig 6..no problems yet, few years.

knock on wood

I run the same set up now. I wired it really good. I hid the wires and all that good stuff :).

Question: I connected the power wire straight to the positive battery post and ground to the negative post. that's okay right? I don't have to ground to the body correct?

Thanks

How do i enable 2 step limiter? I do not have line lock or anything...i just need to wire the 2 step wire to 12 volt and it activates? what kind of switch do i need to buy to switch from max limit to 2 step? would just the simple toggle switch work?

Thanks

I can tell you have been reading the directions huh, cause in their diagram they show the 2-step wiring enroute with a line lock solenoid.

Like you said just wire it up to something that activates the 12v to the blue wire I belive, set your box to the desired rpm for the 2 step and your in biz.

You are awesome :nice:

So what kind of toggle switch should i use? do you have any recommendation? I am kind of enjoying this wiring thing :)

What ever fits clean in the car and is easy to flip for your hand!!

With 12v applied it allows the 2step to come on, w/o 12v applied the other rev limiter (higher) is in play.

Even better if a stick car, mount the switch so its engaged when the clutch pedal is fully depressed.

That would be a nice 2 step setup!!

I do know guys who also run them off ther line lock source as you saw in the MSD instructions.

My car is 5 speed. Is there any easier way? So everytime i fully depress the clutch the 2 step will engage? what about when i shift? And where and how should i mount the switch?

Do yo have some pics? Thanks :nice:

Hey

I know what your talking about the toggle switch goes infront of the first gear shifter position underneath the shifter boot. So, when shifter is engaged into 1st only is when the toggle activates. Underneath the clutch pedal method not sure how that will work because when you press in the clutch while driving that will activate 2-step??? possible backfire??? I was wondering where can find toggle switches I need one myself.
