upgrading from a stock ignition system to a msd ignition ( 6al, pro billit distrib and coil with wires) on a mild 306...

will there be any power gains in dyno #s?

will there be a SOTP feeling?

can i use a alternate ignitions system like Accel?

air is high resistance to electricity, more air more resistance/harder to jump, if you have high compression or boost air is denser, and you'll need an upgraded ignition to handle it. mild upgrades like low boost slightly higher compression most guys just lower the plug gap to compensate

if your motor is stock theres no need for an ignition upgrade, you'll never notice it just buy stock replacements for a tuneup

Another vote with the same opinon...

No NO2, supercharger, or tuurbocharger noted in you plans For that reason, the stock ignition will be fine. The stock ignition setup is good for up to 400 HP.

get a rev limiter, MSD 6AL or just the msd rev limiter, they woun't give you any power, cost a few bucks, but they are like insurance and will save your motor if you miss a shift or break a driveline.

sounds like i can save some $$ and stick with the stock stuff

good advice. cheap insurance.

dont know right off the top of your head a price and part # for just the rev limiter?

I run the 6A.. it helps in the detonation and helping the car run smooth.. i run hotter spark plugs (26s) and 24# injectors.. it helps use the fuel.. my dads 86 is close to the same, just without the ignition.. therefore giving the car hell because it loads up

unless you need to upgrade because of your stock ignition crapping out you usally won't make anymore hp with a aftermarket ignition system. now if like stated you want to run juice then its a good idea to upgrade.

You don't need hotter plugs if you are running a box.

well i wasn't running the box until i built the car.. it was stock when i bought it a year ago, running kinda crappy so i threw in a crane powerball cap/rotor and a set of autolite 26's to help it.. i was broke at the end of the build meaning i didnt want to replace my 50 mile old plugs lol

The stock computer has a soft rev limiter that sequentially cuts off fuel to one injector at a time. It is set to cut in at 6250 RPM.

would an MSD coil help with a rich condition?
Im running stock ignition now and its running really rich. Motor kinda bogs at low RPM.
Doing things to your toilet won't fix the burned out light bulb in your bathroom. Using the same logic, doing things to your ignition won't help an overly rich fuel mixture. Find the source of the fuel mixture problem and fix it.

In my opinion the msd ignition won't help you out no better thatn a tune up will...
My friend installed one in his car and it still ran like crap all it is , is more spark....what are you going to do with all that sparks and no fuel to burn it up,
i have a crane cams ingnition , but mine does allot more than just give more spark. helps me stage and has an anti theft setting...

I know your not running boost or N2O, but I am still not a fan of the fuel cutting rev limiters.
