Hey as happy as i was to order the f'n distributor i didn't notice that it came with a iron gear....and the tags for the Pro-Billet Street Distributor specifically states that you need a steel or bronze gear for roller cams which i have. On the MSD site they make mention of a P/N 85833 for a roller 302 (non efi) @.468" diamter. But then dirrectly below that they mention something about it being a replacement for EFi distributors.....
All in all, i just want to make sure i get the right gear for my application: I bought the MSD-8479 (vacum/mechanically operated, non efi)
-My motor is an '88 302 with an E-303 FRPP cam (hyd. roller) and a vacum secondary carb.
So i'm pretty sure the steel replacement is the MSD-85833 but not completely sure.

Your best bet would be to call MSD or measure it with a caliper.

Whatever you make sure the new gear is installed correctly. I have done 2 of these and corrected a third (one that a machine shop did incorrectly and the distrib would not mount correctly. You only have 0.009" between the min and max of the gear placement. If you screw it up you will need to replace the main shaft of the distrib because your new hole will be 90* off the original hole. A third hole would weaken the shaft.

OK, I got even better news for you. You distributor does have a .468" diameter shaft. If you go to the link below and find your distrib part# it list the part# for a replacement gear as 85832 (which is a .468" ID IRON gear). So you will need the part# 85833 (.468" ID STEEL gear)
