Ok im installing an msd rtard box 8982 and rpm window switch 8969...i already have the 6al install...i need a detailed installed wire for wire...i want to set it up so that when i hit the toggle switch, it turns on the rpm window switch, which then at given rpms turns the retard box and the n20 solonoids at the same time...neither instruction manual for either part had a description of using all three the 6al retard and rpm switch, or with the n20..any help would be appreciated i wanna get this goin b4 sat so i can hit the track

Also if your are gonna be drawing more than 1.5 amps you will need a relay because the window switch can't handle more than 1.5 amps. I have the 8956 RPM Window Switch and it came with good diagrams. Btw make sure the toggle switch is gonna be able to handle the load as well.

they sent me a diagram and all looks good..except theres a yellow wire on the rpm switch that goes to the relay but is connection to a full throttle switch...and im not using a full throttle switch...where should i wire that now..or should it just go straight to the relay since there no switch in between

on mine the yellow wire goes to the (- or ground) on the relay (this will ground the relay so the relay will not need to be grounded anywhere else). the yellow wire on mine provides a ground path for the relay. Both the +12 on the relay can come from the switch.

thats weird..he sent me a diagram with the relay and numbers on the relay and the yelow wire provides power...all soloniods and retard and rpm switch are grounded to the chassis..this is confusing...and i been on the msd site and cant find what im lookin for and at the same time posted a thread about yesterday afternoon and no1 not even msd tech has helped

do you have a way of scanning your diagrams in so i can see them? all components should be grounded to the chassis except the relay. with my setup the relay is activated by the yellow wire from the window switch. the yellow is an output ground that is switched on and off of ground by the rpm i have set.

on the window switch there is a red wire that goes to +12 (switched), a black ground wire that goes to the chassis, a white wire that goes to the tach terminal of the msd box or the coil (-) and the yellow wire goes to the relay ground.

on the relay you will have 2 +12v connections to be made, both of which can come from your toggle. the ground connection goes to the yellow wire from the window switch only, do not chassis ground the relay. then you should have 1 or 2 (+12v) outputs depending on your relay. the outputs are hot when the rpm switch grounds the relay at the desired rpms via the yellow wire. all of your other components are grounded to the chassis.

yea i think i got it straightend out..i just talked to msd tech...the diagram was a little off..he told me the mag pickup connector is not used even though it shows it on the diagram. the diagram also shows the white wire on the retard as not used when really im supposed to connect it to the white wire from the coil harness that i got for the 6al box...then the white wire that was originally connected to that harness gets connected to the yellow wire on the retard...my pic of the relay describes what you said exactly i just dont understand relays too much so i misinterpeted it...also the yellow wire from the rpm switch goes to the full throttle switch then to the relay so i must go buy a full throttle switch today...so i think i got it i cant really send it now cause im at work and theres no way i can go to photobucket or any such site from here i think i can email it though..
