muffler, exhaust, etc.

Hi everyone,

I have a 1980 mustang of which I want to buy a quieter muffler for it as the one on it is pretty loud.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good quiet muffler and a quick tour on what to look for in a one.

One more thing, does anyone know if the original 1980 mustang's muffler was loud? I have the option of buying a replacement 1980 mustang muffler and do not know how loud it is.

Does it have any exhaust leaks? Those can certainly be loud.

A stock replacement muffler should be really quiet, they almost always are/were.

Thanks for responding. To my knowledge, there are no exhaust leaks. The exhaust is held together by clamps opposed to being welded, would that have an effect on the sound?

Well, clamped exhaust can often leak...but otherwise no.
