I was going to take my gt conv to the muffler shop tomorrow to have hooker aeroflows put on it per the shop owners advice. He said they sonded better for convertibles than flowmaster . werent as loud and less air restricion. What is the general consensus here? Is there one? I have seen some muffler posts but not specific to our convertibles. thanks

the flows are only loud when you get on it. at cruising speed, they are almost non-existant. very quiet going down the highway. (even with an O/R H pipe)

thanks for the reply. it sems like I get a lot more responses from stangnet than other mustang forums.

My dad said flowmasters were the best and all a mustang shuold have if not stock. He was a ford hotrodder a long time ago .
I read an article online that said our (5th generation) mustangs have real easy to take off mufflers (they were held together with clips and bolts, not welded. and could be replaced in a driveway in less than a half hour.
One last thing I asked the tech about a cat back system for my mustang and he said the pipes were so big (2.5 inches) that a cat back system really wasn't necessary.
Do the 5gen mustang owners with catbacks do it for sound or what? With pipes that big they wouldnt get that much more performance would they? The above article I read siad they couldnt even detect any difference in performance from aftermarket mufflers. that the stock ones were good up to 450 hp. So is it all about sound anyway? and I went to mustangexhaust.com and listened to the hookers and flowmasters. I guess the FM did sound better. The bassani sounded really good too. I am a new mustang owner (not even a month) so any help is appreciated alot., Like for instance where is the best place online to buy muflers-

the mufflers are mounted in the rear, and only held on by a few bolts. REAL easy swap. install is very quick, and anybody could do it, no shop needed. there is not much gain with the muffler swap, the stock mufflers flow very well. sound is the main reason to swap the mufflers. the cat-backs are a waste of $$ IMO. the factory pipes are 2.5" mandrel bent, but they do have some minor flaws that some companies feel need to be addressed. not worth it IMO. some people think they need every last HP, but unless you are running forced induction (supercharger, turbo, etc.), then you dont need it and wont be able to notice the VERY MINOR gains in power. best place to buy depends on which mufflers you want to get. i know summit racing sells the flows for under $290 shipped.

Borla All The Way!

I would put in a strong recommendation for Borlas. I have the Stingers (more aggressive than regular Borlas) and they sound great. Plus, they are Stainless and will most likely last much longer than Flowmasters. Just my opinion though!

I have the FRRP exhaust from Ford. It is made by Borla and is same as the Stinger.
Sounds awsome in the ragtop!

borlas and corsas

that is ironic. I just joined the local mustang club and asked the late model authority about muflers and he said borlas or corsas. I will have to listen to them again, but I thought the bassini online sounded really good (deep and gurgly).

The Ford dealership owes me about 450$ so the FRRP exhaust from Ford would be the way to go for me now. how much did you pay for it? (I've noticed the dealership prices are *way* out of line with reality.

'Vert Exhaust

Just installed Corsas on my '06 GT 'Vert. All I can say is, "Fantastic". Just as advertised, nice improvment at idle, whisper quiet at cruise, dynomite at WOT, and ZERO drone. As Corsa says, "Loud when you need them to be". I also like the lifetime warranty. These mufflers are really unique, unlike anything else. The best price I found was $585.38 at racepages.com with super fast FREE shipping. Join the Corsa club-you won't be disappointed (I wasn't).
