i'm trying to find a set of good sounding mufflers for my 2001 mustang. I talked to a muffler guy and he recomended straight through mufflers like magnapacks. I thought myself that flowmasters would sound good. any ideas??

Muffler choice is difficult due to different mods and your preference to the sound. I had flows on my '66 and got tired of the same as so many others. Went to the old glass packs and side exits. Love it and tons of compliments. On my '00, I just cut out the mufflers and ran the cats and straight pipes out the back. A bit loud, but I like it. If I ever have a noise problem, I will go with a straight thru type again. Listen to other Fords, search here for sound clips and take your time to choose so it is only a one time install.

Flowmasters sound great but alot of people have them. If you want a similar deep/muscle car sound go with Mac Flowpaths.

If you want something very agressive go straight through like Magnaflow Magnapacks, Dynomax Ultraflow... so on.

I used to swear by Flowmaster...until I put an offroad x-pipe (BBK) on my 98GT. WAY too loud. Actually got kicked off my local track during late night drags because of noise levels (101 db). Switched to Magnaflow and I will continue to use them on every car I own. Still agressive sounding, but less noise (drone) and smoother exhaust note.

i have the SLP LM2s on my 98 SN95! love them to bits and get plenty of compliments (not to hard over here in the UK with a mustang lol)

i loved them before i took out 4 of my 6 cats and now i love them more, bit of a drone at higher cruising speeds but i dont care (thats what a loud stereo is for lol)

But to really seal it: i was crusing along side a mate of mine chatting windows down etc when i slammed my foot down (auto BTW) and launched off, he caught up and said that sounds EVIL!

I can also set off car alarms in multi storey car parks lol

but as everybody says its down to taste!

BTW have you been on http://www.mustangexhaust.com

it may help!

Same experience here,, Had flowmasters, now have Magnaflows....
smooth, deep, drone free.

I got a catless X on mine with some 40 flowmasters on it as well, very loud but it still sounds good.:nice: still wish I woulda got bassani:bang:

Exhaust opinions are a dime a dozen around here.

I had Mac mufflers with Mac O/R Prochamber when I had my stang....I loved it. Very deep and throaty. Had that drone sound....but I loved it too. Not the loudest exhaust in the world, but definetely very mean sounding. It was more hollow sounding like an older musclecar than the packs and LM's....those are more like firecrackers going off IMO.

I have the spintech on my side exhaust roush i get multiple compliments daily they sound awesome, but they are loud. however i have heard that the rear exit doesnt sound as good.

try going to mustangexhuast.com they have just about every combo you could think of.

Its all opinion. You need to just hear different setups for yourself in person or through video/sound clips.

For instance, notice how many people are saying that magnaflows/magnapacks are the best, but I personally cannot stand either one. The regular magnaflows are just way too smooth for me and the magnapacks crackle to much for my taste.

I have flows on mine with an o/r h-pipe. I'm sure I'll be ready for a change at some point, but I do like the sound. So many people claim that "everyone" has them, but sorry folks but on these boards atleast I'd say everyone has magnaflows.
