I don't want to loose performance but I don't like the rumble unless I'm stepping on the gas. I'm thinking about the Borla Pro XS but what I wanted to know is how much do I have to replace to get the benefits of the new mufflers? I mean can I just get buy the mufflers and put them inline and be good? I doubt I will do many mods to this car in the future, may be a T5 swap. maybe some different gears but that's about it. Most catbacks will be louder, not quieter than the stock mufflers.
Dynomax and or Flowmaster 3 chambers mufflers come close, but will be slightly louder. You can just replace the mufflers if you want, but most probably your tailpipes and connecting pipes are rusted to the muffler, so unless you want to have a shop cut and weld them in for you, I would just bolt on a new catback and do it yourself. I personally would go with a 2 1/2" vs the stock 2 1/4". I noticed a slight difference on my stock motor.
But you'll get many varied opinions as to what's best.

The stock mufflers are one piece with the flow tubes and the tails so they will have to be cut and welded.

There really isn't anything out there on the market that is going to be quieter than stock and certainly not Borla. Your only option would be to put a stock replacement muffler on and retain the sound you've got.

5.0's are supposed to bark, put flowmasters on it.

The closest thing you're gonna find to a stock muffler for that is a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, 2.25" offset inlet/outlet. If you want to pick up a little more flow but still keep it relatively stock-sounding and looking/fitting nicely, get a Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back system in 2.5" with the stainless tailpipes - one of the cheapest cat-backs available, but also one of the best-fitting and nicest-looking.

A secondary choice would be a Flowmaster Delta-series cat-back, but I friggin' HATED the fitment on the one Lynn got for her Capri - had to bend and beat and cut and mangle that damned thing to get the tailpipes to line up correctly. They'll also tend to be a little louder than the Dynomax cat-back by just a little bit, and the Flowmaster muffs don't flow quite as effectively ... probably among the worst on the market for flow, actually.

I have the DynoMax Super Turbo kit with 2 1/4" tails on my Saleen. It is much quieter than Flowmasters, but still louder than stock by a bit. I agree with the fitment. It was perfect out of the box.

Magnaflow is kinda quiet cruising and sounds pretty good when you get on it.I had a Magnaflow catback but i wanted louder so i went with Flowmasters.
