Going to order some 3'' mufflers today and i've narrowed it down to two choices.

Magnaflow 3''
or
Dynomax 3'' ultra-flow race muffler(not the bullet style)

Just wondering if anyone has any expierience with either of these mufflers. Good, bad, ugly, let me know.

I had the magnaflows before and really liked them but that was on a mod motor cobra, not sure how they would sound on a 5.0. I have no experience with the dynomax but I have heard they are very similar.

They're actually pretty much identical in design. Magnaflows seem to be a bit more raspy and closer to Pypes Violators, just a little less harsh, so I'd lean towards them. They're both good choices, though.

had spintechs, just sold them, i liked them on my 302, but they are way too loud on a motor that can actually make noise on its own.

and ive got about zero use for a chambered muffler, so flowmaster/mac etc. are out of the question.

Love my magnaflow and get comments on them alot.

I remember reading a dyno shootout from about 14-15 different mufflers about 4 years ago in 5.0 mag and the magnaflow had the highest output of power with the lowest db for cruising. At WOT it had the second highest DB, which when we hit the loud pedal you want loud right? Being so high in each category my decision was easy and I will never look back. Love my bassani x coupled with it as well. Makes for the most beautiful sound!

No contest. Magnaflows hands down. They may be made similar but for some reason they never sound the same. I'm biased too, but i've had both and the Magnaflows were definitely the better sounding of the two. See the link in my sig..

i love spintechs and have them on my car, but i agree with you. they sounded great when my car was stock with a few minor bolt ons, but once i put the ported heads and cam on it, it's almost too loud, even for me (i like loud). i'm going to see if a set of tail pipes quiet them down a bit first before i switch to something else.

My buddy had the Magnaflows/Magnaflow X,w/converters on his 93 Cobra, and that was as close to the proper Mustang sound as I've heard, without actually having Flowmasters. It'd have to be those, if Flowmaster ever went out of business, for mine. 5.0+40's/FRPP off-road H X 20+years of street and strip success is an easy equation, even for me. The 1st, best choice, always makes the 5.0 sound, and run, like it should. Everyone knows that sound. Specially the enemys. Some us old timers just won't change.

if i wanted my car to sound the same as every other mustang on the road, and LOVED that SWEET drone at 2200 rpms, id buy flowmaster

Looks like im going with the magnaflows

EDIT:Im not trying to start a flowmaster war here, just seems like either you love or hate them, and i definitely fall into the latter category

Between the two I'd have to go with the Magnaflows, got a friend with them on a Vortech blown 92LX and they sound sweet. My favorite is of course biased though because it's what I have on my car. Mac full length, Mac off road and Borlas with dumps. Love that deep rumble.

So i called summit, the magnaflows were $100 bucks a piece, and the Dynomax were $80, so i ordered the Dynomax. I appreciate everyones suggestions, but since the mufflers were so close in comparison i didnt want to spend the extra 40 bucks on the magnaflows.

Its wierd that magnaflow offers the natural finish(which is almost $25 bucks cheaper than the polished), for everything but a 3" offset/offset muffler Kinda pissed about that, but i know either muffler's gonna sound good

You'll like the Dynomax...they just sound more smooth and tame than the Magnaflows.

For a general comparison, this is a guy i know who has a long rod 306 and very similar engine setup to mine except he has Dynomax mufflers. Listen to his clip vs. mine and it'll give you an idea of how different they sound. Still good, but different. The downside IMO to both mufflers is the idle sound...i just don't care for how either one sounds at idle.

At this point id rather have the "tamer" muffler of the two, and i think that my motor is going to make up for the lacking idle sound. whenever my flowtubes and mufflers show up i'll have some sound clips

What i mean about the idle, is both mufflers have a really mellow muffled sound...it's hard to explain. If you go on google and search for X303 cam exhaust clips, and you find one with Flowmasters or Mac's or just about any other muffler, they sound like it lopes like crazy. Then you listen to mine and it's so muffled at an idle that it almost sounds stock. A stroker will definitely wake it up some though...i'd be interested in hearing your clips. Either way i will say one thing, the both sound a million times better with an X pipe than an H IMO.
