I was wondering if it's worth it to weld in mufflers to the stock cat-back. I just got a 96 cobra and was told it has 2 1/2 cat-back stock. Most cat-backs are 2 1/2. Would this be such a bad thing to do. I have done on a previous stang, but it was a gt. Also curious of the sound and power gains. If anyone has some info that would be great. Thanks.

The stock catback on 96-98 Cobras is 2 1/4 not 2 1/2. I have magnaflow mufflers welded in my stock cat back pipes but I don't know if I gained any HP since I didn't dyno the car after the install, but the sound is great, I love it. Just a little louder than stock but when at WOT it screams and virtually no drone. I e-mailed magnaflow asking if there was any gain in power and they say yes, that I picked up some so take it for what it's worth.
