I have the 40's and have it dumped straight out the muffler.. No drone on mine.

There is no way that statement is true. Having dumps exagerates drone with any muffler. If you like the Flowmasters, thats fine I guess, but don't say they don't drone.

Flowmasters are not know as Blowmaster, Dronemaster, Flowdrone, etc for no reason.

Any performance muffler can create increased interior noise though. Chambered mufflers are just worse than mufflers with material in them. My Dynomax Ultraflo mufflers create increased interior noise over a stock type muffler, but it is not nearly as much as the chambered junk and they don't drone much.

LoL well now I am starting to think I should save my money and just buy a new stainless steel exhaust for the car, if your going to do something may as well go all the way. This is the kit I am leaning to
Magnaflow 15816 Magnaflow Performance Cross Member-back Exhaust Systems
I have a Magnaflow on my F150 and it sounds bad a$$. But then again it cost 2 times as much as the Dyno Max kit. But the DynoMax kit is not stainless

Are you still considering one of these kits or have you decided to have a shop install some new mufflers?

I have to call BS on that. My friend has the 50 series Blowmaster mufflers on his 70 Mustang and they drone on the highway around 2K rpm at 70. They may not be as bad as the regular ones but they still are similar enough. Besides with all that funky baffling in there, I don't see how the 50 series can flow well at all.

From my experience with the 50 series Flowmasters, I don't have drone at highway speeds. Granted I do have an AOD in it so the revs are lower at speed but didn't seem to have any issues with the C4.
But this is why there are so many vendors out there. The OP asked for opinions so one was offered. The best thing to do is go to a Mustang meeting and listen to who has what and how its configured.

I haven't decided yet, the wife is going to make me think about it a little while, spent all my allowance on a new HDTV. I kinda agree with the last post, I may have to just go to some cruise in's and listen to some. Everybody has different taste and sound preferences, I wont really be able to get advise from anybody but myself. From what I have seen on this thread what sounds good to one person may not sound good to another. I will update yall when I swipe the card, and attach some sound files after the install.

Muffler location is another thing to consider. Some of the round mufflers like the borla, dynomax, bassani can be mounted all the way in the back, where you dont gain all that crappy noise thru the tailpipe section. Just something else to think about.

My car would need 3 1/2" tail pipes just so it doesn't sound horrendous from the volocity thru 3" on the tails.

Heres a couple vids of mine with sound. One is a burnout the other is having it floored getting on the freeway. Not really any cruise cause all the camera picks up is the wind.

The vids should be the last 2 in the list.

i have the 2.5 stainless magnaflow kit on my car. It fit very well, if you take your time it can be perfectly symmetrical. With the tailpipes, i got a loud drown at 1500-2000, about highway 5 gear speeds. For fun, i removed the pipes and just dumped the mufflers. Now it has no extra noise, but really sounds almost scary loud to others. Sometimes I worry about the flames it shoots right at the tank (I do have downspouts). I also had fm 40s, and like others the sound is old now, every v8 on the flows sounds similar. All in all, I like the sound in all driving conditions.

Has anyone used or heard FLOW PATH mufflers? They are made by MAC exhaust.

I think that sounds just fine. Do you know what the mufflers actually are? If not, take a picture of one. If your exhaust system is in good shape, I'd probably leave it like that.

I'm curious how removing the tailpipes and having turndowns reduces interior noise. Every vehicle I have ever been in that had turndowns was terrible inside.
