I found a near new Turn signal/MultiFunction switch out of a mustang at the yard last week, and I was just looking at the back pins on both units, and saw a few of them either missing, or moved. Is there a different wiring for the newer units? This came off a 1991 I believe. (can't always be sure when theres no sticker on the door)

But is the wiring different through the years on the multi-function switch? This newer one also has a longer arm, which I like since my 87's is short and kinda behind my grant wheel.

Thanks fellas.

The multifunction switch (high/low beam, wiper, turn signals) are different for different years. 87-89 will work in any 87-89 car. The 90-93 switches only work in 90-93 cars. You cannot put an early model switch in a late model car, nor can you put a late model switch in an early car.

I just went through this when my blinkers stopped working a few years back and I didn't relize I had gotten the wrong year multifunction switch, it took alot of post & replys + a look at the 90yr schematic to figure out in the end it was that the pins where in different spots between the years. moving the pins is a huge pia so I sent it back and got the correct year switch. learned something new with hat experience.

I tryed useing a 91 in My 89' (before i knew there was a difference)
The turn signals worked and just about everything, BUT, the wipers and washer fluid did Not work.
Useing an 89 on a 93, i am not sure what would happen.
If you switch around the different wires externally from the switch, you can use it.
The differences are internal, so nothing you can quickly change without cutting wires.

Make sure you LOOK at the switch they sell for the "89".
I had my mechanic TRY to get one, they kept sending one, but it was for the > 84 < and not the 89.
It was Used in 89, but on Cougars and a couple other cars.
IF it has a little hazard switch on the bottom, it Will Not Work, the wires AND the connectors are different.
Bone yard and Ebay are your best bet, just make sure it came out of an 87-89.
