Multifunction Switch???

Hello all,

I believe my multifunction switch is bad and I need to replace it. The problem is that my headlights no longer come on at all. Originally it was just touchy when switching to high beams, then it took a little play with the multifunction (turn signal) switch to make the lights come on, and now...nothing at all. I am trying to figure out exactly what needs to be replaced, is it the entire turn signal arm or just a smaller switch. Does anyone know the part number? I get off of work after dark and its kinda hard to drive home without any headlights. Thanks in advance!

Not sure on a 94. On a fox, the MF switch is one assembly and is about 80 bucks.

You could jump the headlights through a temporary switch so you can use your headlights. Been there and done that.

Good luck.

Looks to me like the MF switch is about $51 for the whole shabang...anything else I should check before I buy it? The turn signals, hazard flashers, and flash-to-pass lights still work, I just can't use normal lights, or click it forward for high beams. I don't want to spend this money unless I have to. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: How would I jump it? How much would it cost and how long would it work. Would it just be better for me to buy a new switch?

you can also pull the bezel thats around the gauges and take a look at the back of the headlight switch itself. a few people on here have posted problems with their harness melting. might be something worth checking out

I agree, sounds more like a headlight switch problem than a mf switch problem.

If you do need any oem parts, you might want to check out www.oemfordparts.com They have really good prices and fast shipping.

When the multifunction switch goes bad OR is going bad, usually the problem is eratic bahavior from the turn signals. I've not heard of it effecting the headlights, but maybe so. I'd look elsewhere and check a couple things first.

If you have to replace the multifunction switch it is quite easy. I just don't think this is it, but who knows with Fords electrical prowess.

John, to do a temp switch:

you can grab fused power from whatever you choose (even the headlight circuit) and run it to a switch. Then run the switch's output (accessory on many switches) to the feed which goes to the headlight. All you are doing is circumventing the MF switch. I had to do this once when I lost lows and highs on the 88. Turned out the red/yel feed wire from the headlight switch had backed out of its connector). It is not cool, but headlights of some sort are better than nothing. I also had a switch on highs, but I had the wires out because I was putting relays on lows, highs and fogs.

Good luck.

It is the MF for sure. I pulled it out today and opened it up and when I did some piece that was rather charred fell out in my lap...so something was obviously wrong. I have also lost my left turn signal as well...so I guess a new MF it is, the only problem being I can't get one ordered until Monday at the earliest, and I have to work (late) all weekend. Oh well at least it'll work after monday. Thanks for all the help, i'll try the temp but doubt i'll actually have time to do it. Later!
