Alirghty, I re-attach the battery cables to the battery for the first time So I could crank the car up and as I attached the cables the "factory alarm system" starts going crazy! The guy I purchased from (very nice gentleman) said they car came stock from the factory with this alarm, but I wasnt aware that in 87 you could get a stang from the factory with an alarm....but if so.....how on earth do I disarm it? It scared the piss outta me last night when I attached the battery at like 1AM in my garage. I imagine it terrified the neighbors living above the garage too!

At a minimum for right now, you can disable the noisemaker till you ascertain what's going on. I'd assume a factory alarm to use the horn, so pulling the circuit protection (fuse) for the horn should work. If you find a siren under the hood, remove it's ground for right now. If you disable the Horn, be sure to replace the fuse before you drive the car again.

This allows you to tinker around and figure out what's going on without scaring people.

I didn't comment on the alarm itself because I don't know what came from the factory. Like you, I didnt know that you could even get Keyless entry until MAF cars came out.

so ummm...
most alarms start going off when you reconnect the battery...


did you try disarming it with the remote? or putting the key in the ignition and starting the car?

That's where I hit a spot Im not familiar with....the guy told me that if I try to jump in the car and crank it up , the alarm wont stop...because he said that's what he did. I would think disarming it with the keyless entry fob he provided me with would work, except for the fact that the fob has two buttons only...which I assume unlock and lock the doors. I didnt even know you could get a factory fob for an '87. AND, the alarm doesnt utlilize the horn either, which made me think it wasnt even factory installed.

I don't think Mustangs came with factory anti-theft until 1994. You might want to look around and see if you can find a brand name on one of the boxes installed somewhere. I don't believe there is any generic way to reset an alarm so finding a brand name might help with the research.

my 87'gt has a factory alarm. and it was bought brand new in 87 by my father. he didnt add it. its a key under the dash. it locks the hood, but also is an alarm.

That's interesting because an alarm isn't listed as an option in the 87 sales brochure and I've never seen anything about it in any of my tech info around that period.

I'm with my buddy Saleen - I've never seen such an animal (pics? I don't doubt you - it just has now piqued my curiosity; I wonder what the key-thing looks like).

I wonder if some dealerships could install some sort of alarm? So it's not factory but the car came delivered with it.

Chances are its a cheap aftermarket alarm, pull the dash below the steering wheel and look for any boxes that don't look factory. Anything but an absolutely dirtbag alarm will have fuses near the control module, which is usually installed in the above mentioned location. Pull the fuses, and the alarm should de-activate. If the starter will not activate after doing this, let me know and I can tell you how to correctly remove the alarm.
