I have read posts that say mustang dynos show lower numbers than a dynojet, is this true and does anyone have a %? The reason I ask is I just had my stock 02 GT dynotuned for 89 octane on my xcal, what I got was 230 RWH and 261 torque. Just curious if a dynojet would show better #'s.

usually for NA cars under 500 HP its aprox a 20-40 hp difference. Mustang Dynos do read lower.

If you're internet racing go to a dyno jet, if you're getting the car tuned go to a Mustang Dyno or a shop that has one of the newer DynoJets that can add load (resistance)

Sept. 5.0 Mustang has a detailed write up on this subject in the Q&A section.

Mustang Dyno Accounts for Areo Drag on the car.

Mustang Dyno's are usually 20-30% off from a real Dynojet.
If you are putting your mustang on a dyno put it on a Dynojet.

. A mustang dyno's kinda like the ugly chick you picked up at the bar when your ass is crunk. When you come around your a little disappointed but when the rubber starts movin ..... yee haw!

Here is a thread I made about this a looong time ago.

http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=466448

The consensus was that The mustang dyno's are about 15% off of what a dyno jet would yield.

Mine on the mustang read - 211rwhp and 250lbs

Dyno jet numbers should have been around -

So at 30% I would be 301bhp and 357btq
and at 15% (dynojet numbers) I would be about 248rwhp and 294rwtq (these are numbers I was hoping for)

Ive always heard that a mustang dyno is better for tuning, but in the end they are just numbers.

Good to know, thanks for your input everyone! 230 RWHP on a mustang dyno = aprox 264 on a dynojet. I sure noticed a difference from the tune, felt like more than 10 hp!

Just a little FYI. I started with the generic SCT 89 oct tune and dynoed at 221, the guys tweeked it out over 5 or so pulls to get it to 230. Dyno tune is definitely worth it even on a stocker.

Not true, the newer dyno jets have a load that can be applied for tuning situations.

I believe the only difference in the 2 now other than the numbers is how they apply the load. One uses a hydraulic brake and the other a mechanical brake I think. Don't qoute me on that, but I know that it doesn't matter what kind of loads the dyno provides, because if the tuner doesn't finish the tune on the street you should be going some where else any way.

Dont count on that...people like to lable a % on the difference, but thats just not the case, and is extremely innaccurate.

Dyno jets load EVERY car for the same weight (I believe 2000#s) and take 0 aerodynamics into account.

the mustang dynos #s will VARY depending on what weight the dyno operator enters into the machine. Mustang dyno #s vary greatly accross the board...and that depends on who is operating the dyno. In theory, since it is taking aero into accont....different gear rations will effect HP #s more since the drag increase or decreases dependant on which gears you have (4th gear pull will result in different MPH with different gears).

Basically there are just way the heck to many variables with the mustang dyno to estemate dynojet #s. No % difference, unless all variables were always the same and you knew them...which is practically impossable anyways as each varibale effect #s by X amount....and you would have to find X for each variable . Just throw it on a dyno jet to see what your #s are.

And remember your RWHP will be less on the dyno jet now, vs if it were tuned on a dyno jet. Why? Becaue the dynojet loads to 2K#s...that puts less load on the engine, and makes it run richer throughout the dyno pull. Thus less RWHP.
Generally a dynojet tuned car will walk a mustang dyno tuned car (say both equal engines @ 13-1 AF) because on the street the dyno jet car is running a little leaner. (re slightly more HP) This is in theory, and what I have seen/heard.
