I am considering buying this: an 87 stang gt with the following mods:

the asking price is 9500$ does it sound reasonable? Do you have any concerns about the configuration? Can you offer any advice on this purchase at all? If so I'd very much appreciate it.

Motor sounds stout, but about those dyno #'s, tourque looks like #'s on the spray, hp doenst Who ported the heads? Did FPS assemble the engine? Price sounds good if car is clean inside and out,: does not need paint, no huge exterior blemishes, the interior is complete and in good shape. Also make sure to drive it, how does it idle and behave on the street, unless street manners dont matter to you? How many times has it been raced with slicks? How do the torque boxes look? Any rust? Tons of things to look for. Good luck.

FWIW, cheaper to buy one someone has already built and is tired of or needs cash than to build you're own, trust us on that

Also where is the car from? A place where winters dont matter or does it see salt?

How many miles does it have? Is it rusted out? Do the interior options work correctly? Are the seats tattered and torn? Is the carpet stained?

I mean the ENGINE sounds nice, but how's the rest of the car???

Well I was supposed to look at the vehicle tomorrow but apparently the owner says it has blown a gasket. Does this sound legit to you guys? Is there anything I should worry about now? BTW no rust.. looks near perfect body wise. Interior is good etc. Not sure of the odometer readings, but the new engine has 3k miles on it. The car is from Oregon, no real salt and the winters are wet but not too cold.

hmmm blown head gasket on 3k miles? well that sours the deal IMO... Will they fix it though?

Well, we do have salt on the pacific coast. Where in Oregon? I belong to two Mustang clubs in Portland and might of bumped into the car (at the track or cruise-ins).

Compression is a good indicator of motor integredity. If the head gaskets are gone then it makes it difficult to judge this.

they said they would be fixing it...could it be a fluke? or is it more likely that it is an indication of some underlying problem? If i took it to a mechanic after they "fixed" it and asked for diagnostics, would that uncover the problem in yer opinions? Does anyone know an incredible and trustworthy stang mechanic here around portland? One that I could take it to to have it inspected?

I live in Forest Grove.

The car is currently located in Beaverton on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. Thats close to portland...

sounds nice. I found one that sounded nice last year on ebay (I know this is a little different, you can at least see and drive the car). Bought it and 2 weeks later, blew the head gaskets. I'd say if it's blowing gaskets, there's a reason for it...bad tune most likely. You didn't say how much nitrous he's pushing through it. I'd be cautious, ask any and all questions, and have it looked at real well. Sounds good, but let me tell you, it sucks to get something and have nothing but problems...that's the way mine's been for the past year. However, like mentioned, it is a lot cheaper to buy one built than to build it yourself...just a risk you take. Oh yeah...why is he selling it again?
